I suppose the thread's been a good 'un in a way.. because it's thrown up two points, the first being what to do with a dog that wants to hunt but does not fit convienantly in a specified index and the other being.. how much of an hunter (hunt kennels set up in thier yard) do some folk need to be... to partake (especially with the threat of getting your collar felt high on the agenda) or want to be for that matter.

If the authorities apply a bigger squeeze on people with recognizable hunting dogs...then nature may well morph into favouring a more pedestrian looking dog in order for a general moocher to still be able to enjoy his/her "moments". I cannot understand how this should upset the more die-hard contingent involved in field sports (nor understand how the general moocher got relegated to "messer").....surely the move would be to embrace them into the cause after first listening to how/why they have chosen thier specific route (ignorance or design).

Superb post Oneredtrim :clapper:

MOLL.

Good post :cry: that post is trying to justify the extinction of the true working terrier,do what you want with your dogs...I do .....but dont get on your high horse when those with more than a passing intrest in working terriers decry those who dont seem to give a toss.

Are sunday league footballers somehow trying to justify the extinction of the premiership?

.....but dont get on your high horse...Is that an instruction or a request?

Maybe the irish terrier not being often spoke about is more to do with the fact that there will not be a spade in the plot..opposed to whether the type will actually do a bit or not. Either way it appears it can suffice in keeping a sunday league type of hunter entertained.

when i started lamping it was with a border/lakeland bitch... i had one of those old square floodlights that just plugged into the wall. i remeber having some fantastic nights sport. never caught much but good none the less... or maybe i was just easier pleased back then :) ... got my dad to let me have a lurcher the following year. bags were bigger but i think i remember the sport was just the same.

i didnt read all the posts there so im not sure if i've missed something? but anyway.... i think i was about 13 at that time... i dont know if anyone agrees with it or not but i also find lamping with a terrier an excellent way of entering them to foxes. the downside to shooting is that there will always be a wounded fox or two :( . few get away when a terrier picks up the trail. jpt, just a tip you can also do with your terrier!!

I'm pretty new here, and not real familiar with the rules you fellows have to follow in the UK, so perhaps you'll forgive an uninformed opinion:

Instead of criticizing the young man, would it be more constructive to maybe look him up and offer to show him what to do with his dog and how to do it? Dogs may be able to do most of their job on instinct, but most of us humans need someone to teach us.

Just my $0.02, not sure of hte exchange rate.

I've heard that, and while not following the situation too closely over there it seems that the government puts a lot of debris in your path, and then often winks and ignores the situation unless someone gets a bug up, or gets up on the wrong side of the bed.

Guess I should feel blessed. I have more farms available here than I have time to hunt 'em, and they start a five minute walk away. That's without even checking any yet that are more than a 30 minute drive.

So only hard core digging terrier men are allowed to own patterdales then?

If someone whos not a hardcore digging terrierman has a patterdale, then that makes them what? a pansy? an anti? a ruiner of working dog breeds?

Targa makes a good point  If no working dog lads sold puppies as pets then no pet owners would get their hands on the breed and it wouldnt be able to be "ruined" by pet ownership. Take that woman in the video for example, think about where her patterdale would have come from as a pup, or what rescue it might have ended up in before she rehomed it might not be so far removed from some of the lines behind dogs owned by the hardcore lot :11: , someone somewhere had to have bred a litter of pups and not been too fussy where they went to : so where I ask you does the blame lie then?

Call me what you want , BUT, I have been following a few posts of LOCKES and the crap that had been stirred up and members leaving this board because of it. I smell a rat and that rat IMO is LOCKE , the writing style is very familiar. Unless there is solid proof other-wise , im 99.999% that LOCKE is the one and only “CharlieC†! Infact, you can take it to the bank ! FACT.
