Guest MOLLY
Id thought about it a few years ago but was told...you cannot lamp with a terrier, they will follow their nose. Tell you what id still have a go if i had a terrier still able to do it A young lad with what sounds like his 1st dog, still dont think they are doing any harm. My lurchers go ratting, thats a terriers job, they love it MOLL. Link to post
Guest JOEB
Oh F S!! . Dont be to hard Chief....I think hes a young un JOEB Hard about what Joe?...The man (or boy) who pays the piper......... Oneredtrim I dont really know what you mean ORT but I know the phrase, just not how it applys in this case............anyway by the by........... I knew where Chief was coming from, but was just saying "Hes only a kid", Chief may not have known that when he posted hes reply. I looked at this lads other post the other day and he dont even know how to skin a bunny yet...........better to educate than intimidate dont you think. Anyway.....I wasnt having a pop at anybody.......hope that clears that up JOEB P.S. It may be helpfull for someone to put up some picks for the lad..........show him what a terriers real job is Link to post
Guest oneredtrim
Hello Joe, It looks like the lads terrier is an irish, so the digging route may be a bit problematic. If the kids living with his parents and somehow been allowed to have this dog with no money to create a stable of real deal mutts for himself in his yard....then his post perfectly describes the age old maxim of necessity being the mother of invention (so to speak)...can't see a lot wrong with that...from reading these boards i presumed thats how everyone started. I can imagine there will be a whippet owner out there searching for just such a rabbit kopping terrier. Oneredtrim. Link to post

jpt 284
WOW! I did not know that I would cause such a stir when I posted my picture and comments last night! I am new to all of this hunting lark and I have the bug. All I want to do is get out there and enjoy watching my dog work. I was unaware of the hunting dogs normally used to go out lamping when I got my dog. He is the best thing since sliced bread in my eye and to see him happy is my aim. I understand that the working terrier man might not understand my choice of quarry bit I am doing what I can with what I have got and one day who knows...... I admire a real terrier doing real terrier work but it is not possible for me to do. Thanks for everyones comments and I hope everyone enjoys working there dogs whatever there quarry. Kane 2
no harm done Just another nail ....even if its a small one.........in the true working terriers coffin. As for the Lab if it had the oppurtunity to see 3 or 4 foxes in quick succession it soon would of stuck its tail between its legs and headed for the hills........ :11: Link to post

Garypco 2
SORRY GUYS I AGREE WITH CHIEF ON THIS ONE!!!! Might be fun the only thing thats happening is hes probably spoiling sombody elses lamping ground by making everything inthe district lampshy for evey ten rabbits he courses he might catch one, just rocks the boat and makes the game very unproffesional..... terriers have their jobs and lurchers have theirs, its simple really same goes the other day someone asked on another forum for advice on a good falconry dog one of the replys were try a border collie ffs!!! Squirrel_Basher 17,100
The guys that criticize on here have a bad case of tunnel vision .Terrier -digging ,lurcher -lamping .The role of my terriers and lurchers has overlapped many a time .If a fox bolts and appears to be slow moving and a terrier is behind it do you shout the little one back and slip the lurcher ,of course not.I lamp terriers along with the lurcher ,purely for fitness.Too many terrier owners ignore the fitness side and work the dog from box to hole and back to kennel to await the next outing.Mine catch the odd rabbit as it heads back to the bury and several foxes have met a little dog at night too .Ive said it before, that any terrier of mine which is entered to fox will not look at a rabbit to ground and I'll dig with anyone to prove it .Carry on mate ,your hurting no-one .
