poacher3161 1,766
I always got the impression that the coat in these hybreds came from deerhound and bedlington blood.I had a bitch in the early 90s bred out of a bitch called dot merlin n eve to a streight grey that every one thought she was a beddy/grey.I also have a few old pics of a douglas bred norfolk lurcher that very much resembles the coat on these dogs.atb dell Quote Link to post
karlsberg 319
charlie from kent owned hoover . hoover was sire saluki x bedlington greyhound x saluki greyhound but you have to realise these in there time were soem of teh best coursing animals there was and they were mated best to best all time and that why they still producing some of teh best dogs there is today . J Darcy 5,871
I did an interview with the guy who bred eve , makes interesting reading. Just imagine how different the coursing scene would be without those few dogs of so long ago...... Quote Link to post
iceman001979 1,316
Seagulls dam, Eve was broken coated so my theory, for what it's worth, is that the coat pattern of whatever lurcher type (all over hairyness), and the coat texture of the saluki influence (silkiness) combined to produce differing degrees of hairyness down the line. An old hunting pal of mine from Belfast had a bitch in the 70's that everyone called the afghan bitch but there was no afghan in her. She was basically a cross between a deerhound lurcher and a saluki, (we know who bred her) and looked very much like an afghan with better muscle tone. the dog in this picture what way is it breed its a double for the bitch l have now ?? fieldsman 51
Am I right in thinking the merlin line originally started from Geoff/Tony Smith from leicester way? And Eve was from a dog called Blue and the dam Dawn? Quote Link to post
