max abell 196
Ferret in rabbit out into purse or longnet or out to dog or hawk Why on earth would anyone choose to dig ?????????? Quote Link to post
joey1979 0
That sums it up Tyla horses for courses. I know my land in side out as i said small burrows one or two usally at home, not worth netting up with all the thorn and bramble so its practical to have a hard buck and one dig only and if he does bolt my crafy terrier will sweep or the lucher. So it works best on this land. Quote Link to post
Brimmer 220
Ferret in rabbit out into purse or longnet or out to dog or hawk Why on earth would anyone choose to dig ?????????? Quite simple really Max, why stand around for half an hour whilst your ferret try's to move a stubborn bunny from a blockend which could be shifted from a 2 minute dig? Why stand around waiting whilst a ferret is laid up on a kill, or leaving a kill behind and finally emerging, which could be dug out easily? (what was the point in ferreting in the first place if your leaving kills below ground for no reason.) Why stand around waiting when there could be 3 or 4 rabbits up a tube that could be dug out easy? Why set 20 nets when a big hob could pin a rabbit in seconds and dug to in minutes? Thats why I would dig rather than wait around for a ferret thats making hard work of an easy job. I'm not someone who makes work for myself by digging, if there is an easier way I'll take it. Bolting to the dogs is usual to me. Some warrens dont warrant digging if they are too deep. In go the jills and on go the nets. (6ft digs are no good to any man.) There are more than one way to skin a cat. I think the best ferreters are those that use everything to there advantage on the land they have. Digging is one of the advantages in some situations, and i'd like to bet you could crop a dozen rabbits off my bag every trip if i didn't do it. Quote Link to post

albert64 1,882
dont think it makes much difference wether you use hobs or jills, i,ve a jill here only just bigger than a weasel had to dig to her loads of times, 4 times yesterday in the piss*n rain, the beauty of her is she can get over her rabbit and deliver her killing blow even though she must take more stick than a bigger ferret i found with alot of big hobs you end up with rabbits with bald backs but it does,nt matter to me i love getting the blade going Quote Link to post
micky 3,325
Ferret in rabbit out into purse or longnet or out to dog or hawk Why on earth would anyone choose to dig ?????????? Digging is part of the game,if rabbits just ran into nets it would soon get boring, its allways given me a buzz when you break through and find a red faced ferret ,and sometimes a few rabbits lined up behind it,digging a few ,missing a few,and catching afew, its all part of the game,if you dont enjoy all of it ,buy a gun ,or buy your rabbits Quote Link to post

The original question was about the bloke loves to dig not has to dig when a certain time has elapsed which im sure is common knowledge to anyone who ferrets i dig my ferrets out when i have to not because i love to which was the question i was answering why anyone would choose to or love to dig out ferrets rather than a clean bolt is there choice not mine Quote Link to post
