air gunner 0
Brilliant shooting once again zini! Hats off to you. How are you range finding? (range finder, normal scope mounted laser? Great shooting Quote Link to post
Marksman 934
Being in the military it comes as a sort of second nature mate. Using known distances to assist in rangefinding..... Just think of a football pitch.....from goal line to 18 yard box, double it brings you to the outer ring of the centre circle, add 15 brings you to the centre spot. So when you're in a field pick a point in the distance and imagine yourself stood on the goal line, draw in your mind half a football pitch, split that into your outer ring and 18 yard box and that will more or less give you a basic idea of distance! However I know Si(Zini) uses both a gun mounted laser and a Guntuff Laser rangefinder I'm currently in the process of reading through my old manuals and devising some information for using mildot reticles Hope this helps! zini 1,939
Yes i aggree with Darryl , Range finding is a skill that is taught to soldiers at a very early stage, with the exact method that he uses. i still use it myself sometimes. I used to be a surveyer in the military years ago for many years and measuring distance with steal tapes, directors, stadia rods, sub tensing and pacing was my job. After time you can accurately guess distance in your mind as Marksman explains due to experience and using items in your mind as reference points. I have found that i can estimate distances quite accurately to within about 4 to 5 metres out to say 60 metres. This helps when shooting with a air rifle. I do also have a GunTuff LRF and a laser on my HW100KT which i also use as a range finder at night, as range finding at night is very hard to do. Marksman 934
Here's a small file explaining the best I can about mildot reticles..... Darryl Rangefinding using a mildot reticle.doc Quote Link to post
air gunner 0
That's good stuff I have started using the adjustable optics method by using some instructions for field target shooting. And am about to check out the link. I have started using know markers on shoots to roughly estimate distance too but I will keep practicing and maybe a lazer is in order. Quote Link to post

air gunner 0
Ok I roughly understand how to use the mil dots now. Has anyone used this method with a 9x magnification scope? If so how many mild does a rabbits head take up? Also has anyone got the dimensions of a pigeons breast or head and dimensions of a rabbit? I'm shooting Thursday and want to be ready to rangefind better using this method. Anyone using this method with a 9x mag scope and got the low down on how they are judgeing accuratly?
