Jamie93 57
Mainly all my permission is orchards and I find that he embankments hold vast numbers of rabbits and around some of the trees is very good, there are on average a dozen holes per set around the trees resulting on average to 3 or 4 bunnies. The open ground is good but I do prefer orchards. However digging can be a nightmare in the orchards due to roots etc. Happy Hunting Jamie93 Quote Link to post
steel 17
some of the best ferreting is in orchards Quote Link to post
The one 8,529
Not orchards but strips of wood some good some bad rabbit holding ground as before only bad point is digging with the roots , Quote Link to post
-=Magwitch=- 29
I use longnets and a little terrier in our orchards, a combination that over the years consistantly produces good results. Often overlooked orchards are in my opinion the best ferreting there is. Quote Link to post
James Doyle 59
come to think of it there is a small orchard near me Quote Link to post
fitchet 788
i regurley ferret an orcherd for both rabbits and rats using dogs and ferrets with the rabbits we dont get big bags but consistent ones but the amount of rats is unbielivable we bolt them using ferret while my uncles terriers do the biz while i wait around with the .410 shooting the ones that climb trees. we have never had a bag under 50 rats. somtimes when i need some ferret grub i sneak around with .410 and dog and bag a few woodies.very good places for sport in my opinion Quote Link to post
kbotw45 1
I do a fair bit in orchards, find them to be very productive and because of the good drainage they ve been good even with the heavy rain we ve had, i find them a nightmare to purse net though so usually use the longnet with a few short stop nets only about 10 feet long that i put tight to the hedges as thats where most of the rabbits seem to bolt Quote Link to post
lukeM51 1
tanks for the posts! i find the same positives and negatives as most people, plenty of rats and rabbits, diggin can be hard etc. . most of the old warrens on our place can be 20-30 holes spread over 3-4 lanes. also holes are deep but thats just our soil! PETEWINN 5
Orchards are the same as anywhere, some good, some bad. They have the added bonus of a few free apples \ pears if you time your visit right. One orchard the owner thinks I ferret has no rabbit holes in it, but I always leave with a couple of carrier bags of cooking apples, which are worth considerably more than a brace of rabbits.
