RicW 67
I don't claim to know much about using shotguns, but there are a couple of points here that strike me. First is that on a formal shoot, if you are not on your stand you should break your gun. You do not point your gun at the ground or at the sky, you make a point of carrying it open. This simply does not work for a semi or a pump-action. The thing that interests me here though is a comment made by a friend of mine after the post-Hungerford ban on long mag shotguns. Bob did a lot of rough shooting with a 5-round semi. He also shot clays and did some beaten shooting, for which he used a Beretta U/O. After the ban he sold his semi. He told me that although with the full mag he could put 5 rounds in the air in nearly the same time he could fire 2 with a double, once he was stuck with the short mag he could fire 6 rounds faster with his double than he could fire 4 with the semi because he could reload the double so fast that by the time he reloaded the semi the lead was in the air. As I say, I don't know. Any comments? I only ask because I'd like to know . . . Ric Quote Link to post
bignoel 14
i thought you put two carts in you pull your trigger twice two came out ? chamber is left open could always put a flag into it as they do on some clay grounds showing gun is empty . i think on a pheasant shoot its more of the yar yar yar old boy hurdy gurdy purdy sbs o/u more classy old boy and not your riff raff semi man .just my thought i use a semi and would take it given the chance in my jeans and T shirt . i pay for the day and birds i would want to shoot them with my gun and not a picture scene gun of old . Ric Not sure that is the issue here, and there is still lots of talk about 2+1 semis (or self loading as the police like to call them these days) being a knee jerk reaction cockup by idiots making laws on a subject they knew nothing about! Think about it, why 3??? is that any safer than 5 or 7 or 9. Simple fact is, and an important point (from any criminal intent issue) is that a semi can be reloaded LIVE, ie you can fire 1 or 2 and reload all the time with it live...you cannot do that with a SBS or O/U!! Wondering a bit perhaps........... Tradition and Etiquette!!! ...and what's wrong with that???? Quote Link to post
