derry boy 2
I've just bought a swaro scope amd took it out tonight for a quick lamp. The vision through the scope was fine for the first 20 mins then it fogged up???? I tried to clean it with tissue but could not see a thing through it so home I went and within 10 mins of being in doors in the warmth it was perfect again. So I set the scope out again just to test it and had the same result. Is this normal or has the scope got a defect. All advice wlcome Quote Link to post

Guest busterdog
It would be a defect if it was fogging up internally but it sounds like you are breathing on to you're lens and in this weather it can't be helped, try to control you're breathing so you don't breath directly on to the lenses Quote Link to post

I have bought a set of flip up scope covers so problem solved. Just release the cover when ready to shoot. Was out today but nothing around i guess i will have to keep trying. Quote Link to post

If not it sounds like it needs to be renitrogen purged which stops internal fogging. Swarovski will normally do this free & takes them no time to do. Quote Link to post

AB TAC 0
I would still send the scope back for an inspection, it may just be you breathing on the scope but it is better to be safe than sorry. One thing I have found with the breathing issue is that if you add a sun shield then the front lens doesn't fog, the reason being that when you breath with the rifle in position to shoot, your breath is exhaled under the scope and tends to rise up across the front of the scope, hence the fogging. It isn't perfect, but it does help to prevent the fogging issue a lot. Another pointer is if you get oil or grease on a scope lens, just use one of those white erasers to remove the mark, its far easier than trying to do it with a cloth or tissue. Quote Link to post

If not it sounds like it needs to be renitrogen purged which stops internal fogging. Swarovski will normally do this free & takes them no time to do. The scope is second hand which I bought on ebay from the US. It was a demo model. I have contacted the seller but did'nt really get any where in terms of a refund or replacement. Can you tell me where i could get the scope renitrogen purged and serviced as i plan on keeping it for a few years. I live in London so I could either post it to a dealer although I would prefer to go in person to find out if I have been screwed over. Quote Link to post

If its fogging up on outside on lens, this can happen on cold day if you breath on it for example. Flip up covers can help a bit. If its inside the scope, it means the seals are buggered and the nitrogen has leaked out. Quote Link to post
fireblade_rrw 20
PS - IMO they are the best scopes on the market... Quote Link to post

Hello, I own Swarovski 8x56 a very nice scope, i think the lifetime guarantee only applies to original owners? and you would likely have to pay for repaires, but dont quote me on that, there Tel no is 01737 856 800. Hope you get sorted out because they are very good scopes The number above is Swarovski uk. Edited December 30, 2009 by black lab Quote Link to post

waidmann 105
i had a mate in germany who had a problem with a swarowski scope( and a zeiss) they were both quite old.one was sent away and repaired free of charge, the other replaced with an up to date model. this bit is irrelevant but a sign of quality i think. the same chap found a pair of binos 8x56 while staliking in scotland, lying in the heather.all green but when cleaned up in perfect workin order.they found out the guys address and he sent them to him.he was very surprised.(they had been there for over fifteen years!!!)
