never a truer word

Recommended Posts

just found a book i forgot i had (readers digest Tales of the old poachers 1994) read this bit at the end and liked it and agreed with it - IF - we respect the keepers and land the land provides and although they may not like poachers the keepers respect what the poachers do and the way they protect the hunting ground, so thought i'd share with you all . hope you like it.

Its by a retired keeper called James Knight who was payin tribute to his old adversary

The true poacher is a person who fully understands wildlife and woodcraft, also the habits of his fellow man,the keeper. He uses the habits of one to help him catch the other. He needs no weapons or help of any kind. He is without doubt a master of his art. Envied by keepers who fail to understand him, they lust to have his knowledge to add to their own.

The sun as his clock, the sky his roof and the birds and beasts his constant companions: they grew up together. He has respectfor all. He will come and go like a ghost of the night, taking only his needs. I raise my hat to this man; he is part of our countryside.

May he still be with my great grandchildren together on our land.

hope you like it . let me know what you think

atb for xmas and new year.

happy hunting.

Monk.
