landrover discovery 1999 modle

There lays the problem with TD5 from what I have heard its a good engine but niether cheap or easy to fix. My pal has one and loves it mind. But still misses been able to get his head under the bonnet & patch with chewing gum & sticky back plastic like the 300tdi & older basic engines.

td5 chassis and boot floor are much better than 300tdi, waxoyl it well.

as far as engine goes, if the injectors and water pump are ok then should be ok, its the water pump that causes the head prob.water pump cost alot less than head.

things not mentioned are, oil in the loom heading from where the loom comes from engine, down to ecu, shorts out.

other thing is, sun roof leaking, seems to drip water on area around ecu, answer is get an ecu extension loom, but the ecu in boot at high level,

someone said to get a 2.4 td vm, possibly the worst engine ever, dead as hector, has 4 heads to give probs, italian muck that engine was.

the td5 is a good enough engine, but in 1999 it was just brought in, had few teething problems, hope the 1999 you got is last of the 300tdi, great engine and gearbox set up, but metal work of body let that model down.

atb nut
