jonnygray 139
does anyone else lamp there local gol course / courses and how do they find them i lamp mine regulary and the most i have caught is 2 hi i run a golf club so regulary lamp it, most we ever had off it is 5, the rabbits are the fastest you will fid the ground sits them as is usually well cut and gives them good clearance and ius usually surrounded by rough grass on the perimeter so always a way out, there are a lot of obstacles too bunkers trees ponds and posts very easy to injure a dog, i would only ever use my old bitch on there as she was a bit wiser to them all and spending a lot of time there she knew the ground well! will take an exellent dog to do double figures on a mature golf course! jonny Edited December 21, 2009 by jonnygray Quote Link to post

WILF 47,587
Lamp a golf course on a regular basis, if you are going to sicken a dog then golf courses are the place to do it! My advice would be, chose your runs carefully, give the rabbits as little law as you can with kick ups being best of all, watch your dog carefully....if its starting to pull up then give the dog a nice long break from the golf course, if its looking fit and sharp then you can give them a few more ambitious runs but if they are missing more than a few...pack up and go home or find some shorter slips. They can be hellish places but if used with a little sense they can also really sharpen a dog up. JMHO Quote Link to post
tdavepat 8
I run my dogs regularly on golf courses. They regularly catch and it gives me a real thrill when the chase comes down to guile and fitness. It's not all about speed and a good dog that gets a turn out of a rabbit can keep it from escaping. snoopdog 1,256
well i will start with saying i havent got a dog that will catch decent numbers on a golf course ..but the few i have run i would say if you get a five second run on them you have had a good run ..i think you need a dog that dosnt go rushing in because they will lose vital ground from the begining ..bad move......a dog with a quick turn of pace and an exseptional mouth is requiered....like someone said they can go like fook ...its a good crack when you see the bunnies legs going so fast there just a blur .... ....but it isnt just golf courses where you get bunnies like that ,,,,ive been on well manicured estate land where there are just as qiuck,,,,i took a couple of lads out... of this site,, who both had resecptble rabbit dogs...i hope they come foward and say just how hard those bunnies where,,,the same two dogs caught around twenty + each in just over an hour n half up the dales but got no where near 10 with the same two dogs in two or more hours on this land ...and theres good numbers there aswell...now no disrespect to the dogs or the two lads....just a different class of bunnies ...
