As already said wash it on a low temperature and re-proof. Gore-Tex fabric needs to be clean for it to be able to do what it says on the tin (breath).

A wash every now and again will do no harm and you should only need to re waterproof as and when it starts to leak, otherwise it gets to be a dear do at a tenner a proof.

The grangers extreme 2 in 1 wash and proof stuff is top gear , 30 degree wash and put in the dryer and its good as new. Grangers is what gortex is proofed with when you buy it. My mate uses nik wax on his and i dont think he has any problems either but its about the same price as grangers so you might as well use the stuff that the company behind goretex recomend

I used to use Gore-Tex jackets but since I bought a RAB jacket with the e-Vent fabric I won't go back. e-Vent is so easy to look after, just put it in the wash with a normal mild detergent, hang dry it, followed by an ironing with a hot steam iron, it won't melt. Completely re-proofs it and unlike Gore-Tex, it actually benefits from frequent washing.
