black lab 3
Went for a drive once the snow had eased off a bit down to the estate where i shoot, scanned area above the loch at the Damwall end down into the valley and spotted Charlie a good distance away, got back into the 4x4 and headed down to where i had seen Charlie, no where to be seen, walked up beside the hedgerow were it was and could see it's tracks as it had headed up towards the plantation at the top of the hill, back down to the 4x4 and went round to the top of the hill and spotted Charlie going back down to where i had been [taking the piss] just then a Roe Doe jumped the fence next to me dont know who got the biggest fright it or me! she ran about 60yards and i gave a shout and the usual she made the mistake and stopped to look back as they do, i was already on the sticks and took the shot and she fell, will have to get a rangefinder maybe santa will get me one LOL. paced out 70 steps, dragged he into the hedgerow and done the gralloch ect, then she was put into the roe sack, then headed down to the 4x4 and went home for a cup o tea, not bad only out the house an hour and a half, will catch up on Charlie soon, maybe tonight. To tell you the truth i just stumbled on that one just a bit of luck, was after Charlie! what i find up here is they dont like getting their backs wet, when its raining or snowing or even a hard frost they seam to just stay in the woods or just at the edges dont venture out that far from shelter, but i am a bit of a lazy bugger i can sit at a bit for hours if i have seen some evidance and just wait, i prefer the weather to be "no rain" but the children up here are born with web feet!LOL that will give you an idea of the weather, its very hard in the snow i find.
