chimp 299 Posted December 20, 2009 Report Share Posted December 20, 2009 i found this on the tube and i have to say seeings the freelander is on slicks and the vitara is on muds with mods, the freelander done well. i also spoke to someone who done a round the world challange in a freelander and he said half the problem with freelanders if they are not used off road often things pack up and dont work as they should. obviously old petrol ones are a no no anyway but is there anyone here who has used one with any kind of success , yes i know they will never beat a defender etc but in there class how would you rate them Quote Link to post Share on other sites
pigeon640 0 Posted December 20, 2009 Report Share Posted December 20, 2009 having owned at 20ltre grand vitara o3 reg and an old l reg vitara and driven a 04 reg diesel freelander the vitara wins hands down the freelander is gutles very under powered with no low range for steep work the rear diff howeled like it was about to leave the axel just didint rate it and only had 92 k on the vitara have a hair dresser image but are cheap to buy and maintain cheers colin Quote Link to post Share on other sites

pigeon640 0 Posted December 27, 2009 Report Share Posted December 27, 2009 i mean freelander in it's class ie: xtrail / crv etc.. ok the freelander isnt a proper 4x4 but arnt you the slightest bit impressed what it can do? no im not sorry i once drove my fiat panda 4x4 up the eildons(a large range of three hills in the scottish borders)and it was great went almost anywhere it also was a great shooting motor as it had two sunroofs one for the driver to lamp from and one above the rear seats for the shooter/s but noone rates them but they should great motor light good ground clearance and for a few hundred pounds a little small tho just one of the odball motors ive owned also had series 2 a landy she was a tool greateven but heavy and did leave deep tracks when wet and soft in fields freelander is a big no but try it buy all means and find out for your self stick with something jap you wont go far wrong imo colin Quote Link to post Share on other sites
