Quick Trip Out With Ferrets & Dogs.

Recommended Posts

Just got back from a quick 90 min session at the usual property.

Given it was a pretty late start i only worked 2 buries, with the first a non event.

The dogs were doing their bit nicely by moving a few into another bury i was planning on working.

Once netted up & with the Ferrets making the bunny's bang about :boxing:

I knew it wouldn't be too long before the action started.

Just before things got a bit busier.

They were bolting hard today when they did make the break, had a few pull pegs on nets.

The ground is so dry and crumbly, makes it a bit difficult.

Mel got in amongst the dogs on this one as she had pretty much 'dirt-surfed'

out of the burrow hanging on to this bunny

Tasha upholds her trademark mouthful.

This Bunny thought it had slipped the game.

Until Coco showed her she's just as quick and able :toast::clapper:

Another one for the Bag

Molly has a quick check over a few back in the Landcruiser.

Didn't muck about after this small bag & called it a day,

Took home half a dozen 3/4 to very full grown Bunnys ;)

Cheers,

aye well done :clapper::clapper: a quick ??? over there do the bunnys breed all year with it being warm

There's the usual Spring humpfest :tongue4:

This can start as early as June, which is the start of our Winter.

Depends on some rain in some areas.

Some other areas may not see the young appear til lAugust.

Milky does appear usually towards the end of May in increasing numbers.

There like old bucks when they slam the nets with all the added weight

I've had a few in the last couple of outings.

I think they have had a busy Spring, as i think

there the second litters, seeing there were youngys

around in August in most areas i frequent.

Still having said that there can be young about for all of the Spring until the end of Summer in some areas.

My areas seem to have the typical Spring rush...&

maybe another one later in the season towards the start of Autumn.

Again it all comes down to a bit of rain as we don't get a lot although

it is a 'little' more frequent lately.

Cheers,

Shaun

dont you use locators down south ???

Hey Tomo,

I've never used them personally, however i have met a few guys

over the years who swear by them.

The ground i work in most areas is bordering on impossible to dig

for a lot of our season here.

We used to dig in Winter years back, here & there.

These ferrets were kept outside and were good, although

i can remember some sessions where the shovel accounted for

a good deal of the bag.

Again as it was Winter the 'dig' was a lot easier.

Still we used to have the concrete digs is some areas &

there always a real pain in the @rse :wallbash:

But in all honesty i must say that the current pair of jills

i am working have never made me think i need to dig.

They have worked in larger warrens of up to 50 holes & have been absolute gold.

This is at a time when there has been a few young rabbits running back in etc.

I cant complain and am stoked to have a really good pair of workers.

More to come soon as i need 2 or 3 more

Cheers,

Shaun
