stalking trip this afternoon

Recommended Posts

i decided to go and have a look for a deer this afternoon ive been on several occasions but have had no luck. woodland stalking is not easy although i have seen deer on every occasion but not had a chance of a shot the wind always seemed to be swirling one minute in your face then at your back or ears which makes it worse like i said this woodland stalking is not easy, not like when they are out in the fields you can use hedge rows and dips in the fields to hide your approach. in the wood they can see you before you see them and they do take a bit of spotting in amongst the trees. anyway i arrived about 215pm, got every thing i needed and set off in to the wood this time the wind was in my favour. i stalked slowly glassing in through the trees i must have only been stalking for about 20 minutes when i spied 3 deer about 40 yards through the trees but could only see part of them, the only shot on was a neck or head shot i opted for the neck so set the sticks up took aim sent the 30/06 fedral 150 grain on its way perfect neck shot made up for all the blank outings

Well done mate :good: looks like a nice beast, know what you mean about wind changing in woodland stalking like being in a tumble dryer all over the place, as you said you can only go very slowly and glass every 5 steps or so because how many time have you see a big white arse going thought the wood, another one that seen you first or smell'd you :)
