Snow gives clues

Recommended Posts

Hey guy's and gal's,

At about 10:30 ish today I went up to my permission to give the horse owner a number of frozen cleaned and skinned bunnies (his brother likes em!)

When I arrived at the paddock there was no sign of him, so I hung around for 45 minutes as he told me he would be there for 10:30 to 11:00

There were no signs that anyone had been there but there sure was a crisp clean layer of snow from last nights fall.

I noticed there were obvious signs of bunny tracks but then I saw (much to my delight) paw prints from the Fox thats been around, they were reletively small and I am assumung that the little Fox that pinched my freshly shot bunny from the cemetery has grown and is now a regular predator on the paddock.

I followed his/her tracks all over the paddock and they crossed into the cemetery at the same point that I cross the fence.

Also I noticed some tracks that were very similar to the bunny tracks, but a little larger and the rear seemed to be formed like a "stretched tear-drop" shape but larger than the bunny tracks :hmm: could this be a Hare? or is it likely be a very large adult bunny?

I followed these tracks and they led me to a hole that I had not been aware of before!

From there I wandered around the cemy. F :censored: k ME!!!!

There were nothing but hundreds of bunny tracks all over the place. I thought I had done a fairly decent job in there until I saw all these tracks. There must be hundreds of the sodding things left.

The good part is, that in the new section of the cemy (where our family is burried) there were only two sets of tracks and they didn't go much more than a few metres into the new section.

Looks like I need to do more work int he old section huh?

So as the horse owner didn't show I returned home put the bunnies back in the freezer and then acted as pack mule again for my wife as she went shopping.

She's out with my daughter-in-law tonight so I am havving a few bevvies and kipping down stairs so I can get up bright and early to go shooting in the morning

If you followed the big foot prints to a hole then its not a hare, hare's live above ground, and you now know where at least one bunny is feeding because of the excesive amount of footprints, so that gives you something to go at next time your out

Cheers for the tip buddy notworthy.gif

I'm gonna have to do a little research as to the foot-prints aint I?

Perhaps its a Mutant Bunny? (lets face it I've had some weirdo bunnies over my short hunting life)

I did not know that Hares lived above ground (guess that my 'learn summat new every day thing for today')

Nothing better than fresh snow to see what is on the land, good luck for shooting later mate

You are correct yes.gif

There has been a fresh covering of the cold white stuff this evening. I am undecided as to wheather to go out now before the hang over kicks in orwait a few hours.

:bad:

Had to stay in, in the end :cray:

My daughter was poorly. So I'll leave her with the wife when she gets home and I'm off hunting.

Seems like every time I try and do some thing that I want to do, something crops up and stops me.

:shout: I WILL get out today (even if its for only an hour )
