wila 11
Just starting this for bit of crack really, what does everyone think is the best cross or breed of dog for all round work. Meaning lamping, ferreting, retrieving hares and fox (day or night). And I mean testing their working ability's aswell not just 5 or 6 rabbits on the lamp I mean 20 to 30 rabbits, good at working with ferrets, also being able to kill hares on most land(pre ban) and a dog that doesn't mind mixing it with the toothed quarry(pre ban). I prefer Bitza's they are usually good dogs for all round work. Obviously there are dog's that excel at certain task such as the Bull x for the fox, saluki x's for the daytime, collie x's for ferreting and lamping same with the beddy x's. But alot of these dog's mentioned are one trick pony's, obviously not all of these are like this but most. That's why I like Lurcher x Lurcher, mainly a mix of all those crosses mention, best of all worlds really. Like I say just for a bit of crack and to see what other people prefer. Cheers GS Carnt go wrong with a collie whippet greyhound by 1st x collie-greyhound dog out ov a whippet bitch, realy gd dogz Quote Link to post
Bosun11 537
Would agree with you there Max, to get near the title dogs NEED two attributes, the heart for a fox and the legs for a hare, i belive everything else can be put in IF the dog is in the right hands. Quote Link to post
CI HIR 13
beddy grey x weaton grey Here`s my Beddy grey x wheaten grey. Not a day time long years dog but does everything else.He works well with ferrets and on the lamp. The only negative point he has is that he can be a real b*****d with other dogs. CI HIR 13
Here`s my bitch,100% allrounder. She`s a deerhound lurcher from lines going back years.I`ll definately breed from her in the future and keep the line going. She does work with ferrets but is not ideal as she gets frustrated and starts digging at holes if loose. Ginny Spinner 455
Jeez these topics are done to death.. Sorry man but they are.... Know what your saying mate but if no 1 started these topics and was just looking through old posts the spot would be boring, plus there is so many new members joining each day would be nice to hear their opinion on the matter. Oh I moore-wkton89 she doesnt fail you on any quarry including the ferret . Here's a pic of my all rounder had great bags of bunny on the lamp, great worker with the ferrets, retrieves charlie good enough(all though she hasnt had enough to call her a fox dog same with the daytime hares had plenty but no daytime dog and would probly get flogged on big open land, although i have the half sister to her here just a pup and would probly put up a decent show on the open land. (foxes shot and retrieved) Swift my young pup for next season... Quote Link to post

roan 4
in Ireland handy working deerhound bitch medium coursing greyhound dog never failed me yet however i usually pick a bitch from the litter to keep the size down for the bunnies the choice of the deerhound in this cross is the most important thing for sure ie a purebreed that has taken all quarry you wish to hunt cant beat hybrid vigour in my opinion Quote Link to post

Thats why its better to have a dog up to most jobs Quote Link to post
