scotty2306 37
some nice dogs and good points, mine would have to be a saluki whippet gh, but would this cross reatreve charlie? i know one that will have a nip and a twist but is more than likley not up to the job on its own, and most saluki xs will back out after feeling a pearly white or let off a mighty squiel just because a dog squeels dont mean it will not do one,non of our dogs have done it single handed and to be honest i would put pound to a penny they wont they both got bit because they are backenders (scared of the teeth) and both squeeled like mad so it aint just the saluki x ive no doubt that mine will do single shes only a young dog yet and has her self to prove, as for her letting a squiel off that i carnt remember? and as for backenders the last one was on the neck and ribs shes done one on the backend and faced the consequence- got a face full of teeth and i carnt say im dissapointed in that as she was the one who caught it by the backend,, edited to say she did not squiel she let a little whimper as it was jaw to jaw, and the other dog was pulling it about whilst they were jaw to jaw, and once they split she was right back into it. all im trying to say is a saluki based lurcher is not a fox dog and many agree im not bothered its just the bit about mine is likely not to do it by its self maybe not but until your dog has proven its self its in the same boat if i wanted a fox dog i would of bought that of a harder cross but so long as she goes in she will do me but time will tell in both dogs roll on next season hope the pup comes out well should make a allrounder Quote Link to post
Oldand 5
Just starting this for bit of crack really, what does everyone think is the best cross or breed of dog for all round work. Meaning lamping, ferreting, retrieving hares and fox (day or night). And I mean testing their working ability's aswell not just 5 or 6 rabbits on the lamp I mean 20 to 30 rabbits, good at working with ferrets, also being able to kill hares on most land(pre ban) and a dog that doesn't mind mixing it with the toothed quarry(pre ban). I prefer Bitza's they are usually good dogs for all round work. Obviously there are dog's that excel at certain task such as the Bull x for the fox, saluki x's for the daytime, collie x's for ferreting and lamping same with the beddy x's. But alot of these dog's mentioned are one trick pony's, obviously not all of these are like this but most. That's why I like Lurcher x Lurcher, mainly a mix of all those crosses mention, best of all worlds really. Like I say just for a bit of crack and to see what other people prefer. Cheers GS beddy/whipxgrey to bedxgrey Quote Link to post
Meerihunter 7
Full Salukis are as versatile as they come IMO if you allow them them to have their own head and to work to their strengths. Quote Link to post
