Best breed of dog for all round work.

That picture will never fail to impress me TOMO. I must agree with DOXHOPE on this one, the best all rounders I have seen and owned are Lurcher X Lurcher with very mixed breeding. Lets not forget though, some are born to better than others regardless of how good their owner, handler is. I'm sure that Daley Thompson wasnt the fastest runner or the highest or longest jumper, he never even had the most stamina, but never-the-less he was a great ALL-ROUNDER. Regerds Warren

so what do we have so far ? collie is muchly agreed on as saluki is still on thin ice but is some what needed for stanima, and i would say a bit of terrier blood is the way forward too and not to forget the grayhound and why not the whippet as these have a big heart for a little dog, may as well add the deerhound too....soooooo adding these together... f**k ME WE HAVE A LURCHER !!! so does anyone else have any thing to the list to add to the ultimate allrounder? i mean lurcher

ahh not realy as what if you come to sell this allronder and it just wasnt a allrounder to some one else... but these days your allrounder only has to be a rabbit and rat dog as that is all thats leagal now.. what a piss take eh

handy working deerhound bitch medium coursing greyhound dog never failed me yet however i usually pick a bitch from the litter to keep the size down for the bunnies

the choice of the deerhound in this cross is the most important thing for sure ie a purebreed that has taken all quarry you wish to hunt

cant beat hybrid vigour in my opinion

fair enough you got a bad one did you see the deerhound work or just take it was working stock sometimes you have to be care full and do a little research especially when dealing with a breed that can in some cases be badly bred

 

ive hunted and bred my own 1st cross and pure breeds for 12 years and my lurchers will do all required my pure bred deerhounds have determination and ability not the ability of the 1st cross but they damn well try

 

not stirring it but that is fact as do any i have given to friends over the years

 

so i will advise on what i have seen and done as i wish

but would this cross reatreve charlie? i know one that will have a nip and a twist but is more than likley not up to the job on its own, and most saluki xs will back out after feeling a pearly white or let off a mighty squiel

just because a dog squeels dont mean it will not do one,non of our dogs have done it single handed and to be honest i would put pound to a penny they wont they both got bit because they are backenders (scared of the teeth) and both squeeled like mad so it aint just the saluki x

ive no doubt that mine will do single shes only a young dog yet and has her self to prove, as for her letting a squiel off that i carnt remember? and as for backenders the last one was on the neck and ribs shes done one on the backend and faced the consequence- got a face full of teeth and i carnt say im dissapointed in that as she was the one who caught it by the backend,, edited to say she did not squiel she let a little whimper as it was jaw to jaw, and the other dog was pulling it about whilst they were jaw to jaw, and once they split she was right back into it. all im trying to say is a saluki based lurcher is not a fox dog and many agree

but zak isnt a saluki based lurcher he just has it in his breeding, plus hes a well put togather dog and has beddi in him wich is just as good as bull imo
