curlywat 0
Hi All, Can you experienced lads help me with a question? I got a little black terrier just about this time last year who had done nothing - he was said to be 2 when I got him, making him 3 now. In the year I have owned him he has taken rats for me and done some bushing/marking too. Over christmas he will get a propper go ratting at some stables a family member owns - if he proves any good I would like to try him on a propper job and see if he will go to ground for us. Is it too late with him being 3? As he is a live in dog am I doing the right thing? (I know that propper terrier work has it's risks but would still love to give him the chance at doing what he was bred for. As you will all be able to tell he is my first dog of any kind so please no piss takers. I do however think/know that I have the bug for terriers and he won't be my last. looking forward to hearing some sound advice. Thanks. Quote Link to post

fensaluki 35
If you don't buy a ticket you'll never win the lottery will you? What I mean is you will never know untill you try him mate. By all means try him fella he may turn out to be a world beater but dose it realy mater if he dosn't but please make sure if you do try him he;s collared up and your with someone with some proper digging experiance and start him on an easy earth. the last thing you want is to run into trouble with a dog that aint done it ,a terrierman that dont know it and 12ft dig through limestone, chalk and rock but if you have a good terrierman mate and an easy earth no great harm should come to your little fella. atb Quote Link to post
stormyboy 1,352
Not too old mate. Makes no difference he lives in-often you get to know your dog better. Give him a go and dont give up if he doesnt go straight away. Quote Link to post
