Hi all, a family member of mine has a spaniel bitch and gave birth to her first litter a few weeks ago, she is making to much milk and the vets have said to keep her away from the litter for 3 weeks so the milk with dry up for her own safety, they have lost one pup already and have been told the rest might not make it. any one know what the chances are ? i would be more than greatful for and replies

Uhh

Sorry but this litter sounds slightly "retarded".

Are they inbred?

Because they seem VERY messed up.

If it's just the bitch has something wrong that makes her not breed good pups then i'm sorry to hear that.

id look back in peds it dont seem right some dogs do have week pups but id say its bro & sis stuff to me or lines are to close some ware

This may seem harsh but any pups with the defects should be put to sleep so you can concentrate your efforts on the health litter members, i know if you reduce the food intake of the Dam it will reduce the milk, but this seems a very strange case, like Beechessam says talk to a vet and follow there advice, even if it is harsh on the defected pups.

Good luck and keep us informed.

Dave.

to be honest a bitch cant make too much milk, the pups will drink what they need. I find it hard to beleive that they said split them up. Does your faily member not check all pups daily??? surley they would of spotted some were not quite right
