iceman001979 1,316
1_ Take your dog out during the day first make sure it is jumping double barbed wire and coming though gets with ease. 2_ Make sure your dogs comes straight back till hand when told too nothing worse then a dog hunting up on its own on the lamp. 3_For the 1st couple off times go out yourself just you and your dog making sure that he is jumping and coming thought the gates coming back when told nothing worse then afriend going out doing your head in because the dog is playing up and remember jumping and running at nights its different for during the day and will take the dog time till get used to it. 4_For the 1st couple off slips make sure your dog sees the rabbit before yea slip when he gives yea a wee pull try get a word that makes your dog look forward like piss piss something like that. What every you do do not slip the dog with another dog this is when dogs get hurt and bad and bad habits happen. 5_Once he has caught a few on the run yea can start learning him about rabbits in the bed the best thing l have learned over the years for this is the shorter the fields the better so if yea have any land with sheep with rabbits on it its perfect because the frame off the rabbits sits out more then in long fields also football or golf courses are good for this. 6_A lot off people will walk there dogs up till ones and sitting tight and when they move slip the dog till they learn about 1s in the bed l myself thing this is wrong never have i seen a lucher that will look down for its prey they always look forward so l slip the dog about 4 metres away for 1 sitting in the bed they might over shoot a few times but a little call back till yea and they will walk straight into it on the way back.after a few on this slips the dog will learn that if there is nothing running away it must be sitting tight and will stand and have a look around till it sees what it thinks is a rabbit. Hope this helps yea and all the best in the furture with the wee dog now remember it takes time to make a good dog a great dog  Quote Link to post
