I work a lot of small fields in S yorkshire, there not all small, but the ones i work tend to be. I need a bloody quick nimble dog. Used to work a whippet, he was quick and very, very game...used to occasionally yip through frustration though. He was good on rabbits, but struggled with hares if not caught straight away....(this was pre ban). Please take into account this was my first dog 22 years ago.

I also worked a Hancock beardie/border collie greyhound 25/25/50. This was a much bigger stronger dog who was good at hunting up, had more stamina and better staying power. He had a very strong hunting instinct and used to take foxes no problem, although this is something i have never had an interest in. I used to concentrate on rabbits and hares. He was a good all round dog, but not an out and out hare dog. He had good feet and never really use to have many injuries. He also aged well.

My latest lurcher is a 50/50 collie greyhound (hancock bred). Shes a good dog very quick off the mark. Obviously don't bother with hares now, but guess she would struggle in the day if she didn't catch one straight away. I must say if there's not much happening she will make her own fun instead of getting her head down. She is also a very careful dog and will not go crashing into a hedge for a rabbit at full speed, not some peoples cup of tea, but i quite like her carefulness.

A collie greyhound back to a whippet would be worth considering. But at the end of the day a good honest pup that aint going throw too tall or small will probably do the job if trained and entered with a bit of patience. ATB.

you only saw the dog run once, remember, there were no rabbits ........

all My dogs are fine, i run two whippets .mainly day time mouching and lamping.

I took Donnylad(my sisters lad on a couple of nights lamping), first night saw not one rabbit, second night saw three and ran one, but from that the clever little shit can deduce that my dogs dont stay.

All the plummer books he has been reading, kindly supplyed by muggings here :wallbash: ..must have gone to his head.
