the new browning X bolt

hi all undecided with the .243 range of rifle, ive seen the

browning x bolt stainless stalker?

the thinking behind my situation is that im no game keeper with

quad or vehicle to carry a heavy type varmint rifle and not shooting

one every night with with vast ammount of ammo going thru it ,

its light weight due to non heavy barrel and has a good synthetic stock

i know when barrels tend to warm and the bullet rises slightly but with this

barrel type i will not be putting a great deal thru it

please can you give me some plus' and minus' on this rifle

i ve looked on forum sites regarding the reviews so excellent

some poor so any thoughts much appreciated

I’ve handled one in the sportsman and I was really surprised at how short and light it was. The stock is very rubbery and the recoil pad is the softest I’ve ever felt (I gather this helps the recoil with the gun being so light).

 

It seemed OK to me – I was going to wait for them to come out when I bought my 243 but couldn’t wait (it was early this year and no one seemed to have them in) and opted for a used Steyr instead. The reports say they are accurate and I doubt you’ll find anything lighter in 243 flavour (it really is a small gun, it reminded me of my 16†CZ style!).

It's one of my favorite rifles, though i can't speak for the synthetic stock since i haven't held one, just a wood stock x-bolt. as for the barrel rising as it heats up, this should only be a problem for rifles where you have contact between the barrel and the fore end. the x-bolt is free floated along the length of the barrel, so this isn't a problem.

I looked at the 'x' & used the 'A' in many cals, if thats anything to go by, the Brownings are exellent. Not heavy , super fast action, very precise.

I've had an 'A' bolt Browning .270 for 5 years, and before that an 'A' bolt Varmint 22.250.

So not the 'X' bolt, but OH! I can only say how good they were/are. The only proviso' is

that you reload your own ammo, factory is KAK, Reloaded is where it's at!

I just bought one and it is a really nice rifle. Does what it says on the tin so to speak, accurate and light
