Squirrel_Basher 17,101
Why not? .Owls are bomb proof as long as you feed them regular .Had many an owl so no snide remarks .To start with a hawk or falcon, without any knowledge would be wrong so in my book the lad has done right .You can learn a lot from an owl without putting yourself or the bird in danger . Owls respond quickly to a cut down in food unlike a stubborn hawk that will nearly die rather than feed off the fist .Just my first hand experience ,take it or leave it .I used to fly a little owl at lob worms so i must of done something right .lol. madmackie 11
sorry but i disagree an owl (barn) will fly at around 7oz so you have very little room for error if the bird wont come and you dont feed it you run the risk of the bird going into shock and dying there is more room for error with a larger hawk like the harris if you want to have a barn owl come to you and be tame then do as i did and get it from a reputible breeder and get it at 7 days old so when it opens its eyes it thinks your mum and it will do anything you want it to as it is imprinted also remember owls are nocturnal so you have to basically turn their world upside down to fly in the day as they are nocturnal even imprinted you run the risk of loosing them !!! kirk224 10
i agree mad mackie at the mo its very cold out side and if you dont know what you are doing its to easy to kill qa bird its a shame you just think it will fly to just like that it wont. i would say read books and go right back to basic with the bird maning it on your hand getting eating off your hand comfortably and so on Quote Link to post
