higgins 75
You need to be careful whichever method is used not to leave the head embedded, not sure what the best method is,but there will be a few people on here who will suggest something. When i've had them on dogs i have used spirits of one sort or another, and on other occasions i have waited until the ticks are bloated before gently prising them out with tweezers, but if in doubt let the vets sort it,atb, Higgins. CountryHOG 0
DO NOT USE VASELINE or for that matter anything that blocks the air supply to the tick. Yes the tick will die however it will in the process basically puke back all the blood that it has sucked out, one dead tick followed by a sick ferret. You are obviously on the old internet, go onto a ferret welfare website, these people know what they are talking about so TAKE THE ADVICE, the one thing i use now having had a ferret with literally hundreds of tiny ticks (rescued) was frontline spray, visit your vet buy a spray bottle for about £20 it will last you absolutely ages, i have one from last year, ive three working dogs, four ferrets and ive also used it on myself after being out in the woods. Its worth the purchase if you respect your workers. You could of course knock the ferret on the head and get another, however thats what some idiots would do and you obviously dont seem like one of them. Whilst on the matter whats wrong with using good old TCP and save the Jeys fluid for washing the dog runs out. All the best from a chap thats owned pet/working ferrets for almost thirty years. and i still shed a tear when an old faithful passes away. Quote Link to post

Jamie93 57
I went to pets at home and bought a tick repellant. Put one pippette on their neck and the problems solved. Happy Hunting Jamie93 Quote Link to post

FightTheBan 1,147
Theres a website (bada UK or something like that) which sells a pack of two (1 big 1 small) tick removers. There only about a pound and are great, especially for ferrets as you can hold them in one hand and remove the tick with the other. Highly recoment it. Quote Link to post
