AzMaN 0
Went down the range today to have a play with the .223 have got 2 different round's 1. Norma 50gr V-max Hornady 2. Remmington Premier Accutips 50gr I zero'ed in using the v-max and got 2 groups at 50m of 1" and 3/4", i think i can get better if i had a softer trigger pull this remmington standard is far to heavy. then i tryed the accutips they grouped at 4 1/2" which i thought was a bit off i wouldnt have expected that kind of difference between 2 differnt types but same weights is this normal?? oh as you can see on the picture the first 2 rounds of the accutips touched eachother then they spread out on rounds 3 4 and 5. oh this picture should be turned 90 deg (so the accutips are at the bottom) Edited December 13, 2009 by AzMaN Quote Link to post
SNAP SHOT 194
Different case volumes, different powders used, different heads.... different primers, all lead to variances, And groups can change dramatically, I'd clean the gun and try them again....!!! just the gun seems not to like the remmingtons.....!!! There is always the human and weather elements to consider, but some barrels just don't like some ammo! With a group like that something doesn't seem right! Got myself a new 22WMR yesterday and out Zeroing it today, the trigger is terrible, (heavy and creeps for a fortnight before it breaks) so needs some work, but I managed 0.75 inch groups at 90 yards (I would have been laying in a massive puddle if I pushed it to 100 yards) with 2 different ammos! AzMaN 0
hmm well at first i thought the huge group was because the barrel was hot, i admit i did put 20 rounds through in 30mins but its a varmit barrel so i would have though it could take that heat, anyway the order or shots was center patch first of v-max grouping at 3/4" then the accutips at 4+" and then i put the v-max back through and got the 1" group. this was done off a bipod so if i fully benched it im sure i could get it alot tighter which i will do when i get to the reloading stage, but i still though 4+" was a bit extreme at 50yards. would the moderator getting hot affect the groups?? willum 89
i have a 22.250 i tried using federal when i first got it soft tip 50 grain they were useless then i tried remington ballistic tips 50 grain they faired much better zeroed at 100 yds down to 3/4 " then i couldnt get any more of them from my local dealer so i bought the 50 grain winchester silver ballistic tips these were a different kettle of fish i got excellent groupings and very consistant so i am now sticking with these ps i shoot i tikka t3 light stainless synthetic. Ill try and have a play next week with it and see if i can better it. Quote Link to post
willum 89
try and see if you can get the wins in 223 mate give them a go very impressed with them Quote Link to post
AzMaN 0
Just a little update, i changed the stock for a aluminium block one (a hogue) and replaced the trigger, went out to play with some homeloads, and got them all under an 1" at 50yards, and one powder weight at .3" which will do me for hunting. tryed the norma v-max again got them down to 1/2inch. didnt try the remmy's Quote Link to post
SNAP SHOT 194
1/2 inch is good mate, glad to hear you got sorted out at last.. Snap. Quote Link to post
garyw 0
you need to get out to 100yds to see how the ammo performs when you get a decent load go back to 200yds this will give you a better picture of what the rifle/ammo will do.then get handloading.above all else enjoy it. Quote Link to post
pigeon640 0
my tikka hates remmies As well but groups at 1" at ahundred yards with home loads i did try federals and they wernt bad at all would kill a fox anyway colin Quote Link to post
john robbo 30
clean the gun and check the moderator hasn't come loose it maybe fouling the bullets flight also check the stock and mount screws are tight. it maybe just doesn't like em but check alls tight first. Quote Link to post
