jamie g 17
popped out for a quick lamp last night over some permission. not many rabbits about and what we did see my cousin missed with hmr. we then drove under the motorway to the otherside of the permission. it comes to a 3 gate juction. the field on the right is short around 150 yards long. it is bordered on left by a train track and on the right by the m5 motorway. which is around 20 ft in the air above it. we see a fox but as the air was that still and we where so close he soon got wise before we could draw the rifle out the window of the 4x4. he made off down the bottom of the field. so i got out and got the 22/250 and started to call just incase he come out for a look. he didnt so we moved on up the concrete path in the 3rd gate which runs up the side of the m5. which is then on our left hand side. they field it runs long on the right is a big cut field. which hasnt been planted this year. its 200 yards wide maybe abit more in places and runs around 400 yards long. we go to the top where there is a bend on the path and see a fox across the field by a gateway into a huge 700 yard field. that runs away from the m5. the fox was with a second fox. and from what i see later on in the night they are pairing up. i shot the fox in the front of the chest with a 55 grain hollow point. the thud hit home and i new the fox was dead instant. we then moved on over the other side so we were running along side the 700 yard field. i have seen alot of roe deer in there at night and day. which is allways nice to see. we went round the field and come across to foxes one ran off and the other was sat behind a fence in the bushes. we called him out and then for 50 to 60 yards i missed with the hmr i couldnt believe it ! the rifle must have been knock. im guessing as thats why my cousin missed the rabbits. i could have got out and got the 22/250 back out. but where he ran to wasnt a safe shot so left him for next time. we went back over the otherside and in all see 5 foxes. on the way out the drive on the way home a fox was sat looking at us next to the last house in the lane. a good night but abit ****** off with the hmr being knocked and off zero. not bad ive been out 3 nights this week over 3 different farms. and there are lots about still. had 3 in 3 outtings here are the pics below last nights fox friday nights fox which was hard work. shot with hmr and had to stalk him over 3 fields to get into a good range to shoot it with hmr. see some nice muntjac to that night. and thursday night a massive dog fox on a farm we have permission on. which is on there hereford, worcester border this is with the hmr also. mad how often when your out after rabbits you get a chance at a fox. yet when you take a centrefire you dont see them as much :sly: Quote Link to post
