Downunder_Sthn_Ferreter 16
Had to travel back again this morning as i left a $200 Puma Pocket knife up there on Friday This knife was originally bought for my Dads 40th way back in 1975. So it has obvious sentimental values ingrained into it. After recovering this, it was left from where i had cleaned the Bunnys, The game was on >>> So the morning was a little slow to start with, strange as i was setting nets at 6.15am...eventually a bit of action started.... Coco & Molly both Keen for a bolter.. I weckon i heard a Wabbit !! I did ...I did ...I did hear a Wabbit !! Combined effort fence side Tasha Nails a 2nd Bunny from the same hole Then really gets a grip of things... I'll cover here, you do there... More Team Work Again.... & Again... Coco with a nice Bunny nailed on the Run after slipping a net in heavy cover Tasha with a few Bunnys, watches the bury in front being worked. 16 Prime Bunnys & a whole lot of fun for a few hours today. Gets busy when your on your own Cheers, Shaun Edited December 13, 2009 by Downunder_Sthn_Ferreter Quote Link to post

They were originally purchased around 20 years back now... Gee time flys hey... There 4 ft nets, personally like them over the white ones we get here as they have a double outside line, makes them last longer. There also a stronger weight material than the white models. The brickies hi viz string i use is very very good... Cheap and silky smooth on the close up The original running lines were crap once they got a bit of moisture on them as they swell, then the net goes into slow mo mode when a bunny hits it Cheers, Shaun Quote Link to post

Downunder_Sthn_Ferreter 16
mice to see shaun rabbits and ferrets in diffrent country i have several freinds over by good lads etc ex hunters to living in ozz ,you get much other qaurry to chase with dogs or just rabbs , like hare deer wallaby types foxes There's a huge following of hunters here who chase wild pig & roo with their dogs. Pretty serious stuff with some very good mixed breeds. Bullmastiff cross Rhodesian Ridgeback are one that comes to mind, Greyhound cross Bull Terrier is another. Jack Russels are also used in some guys packs as they can help move a pig from cover as they can get in to tighter areas than the larger dogs. Deer hunting is another form where dogs are used, however the greenies aren't real impressed with it. Hare & Quail can be found in some areas where there is wheat grown. After the harvest, working amongst the stubble with a good pointer breed can be a top days sport. My father used to tell me stories of large bags of quail amongst the stubble. If your bolting rabbits for the dog ,fine just do it ,but i cannot see the point of letting dogs worry well netted rabbits Gday Micky, Main reason i let the dogs hold netted bunnys is as you may know yourself, they can get out of a closed purse net just as quick if they kick the net open. Also the ground i work is often pretty steep, I have very bad knee problems & am slow to shuffle down hillslopes another reason for the dogs as they hold the bunny until i'm there. One last point to consider is i largely go it alone and when your on a bury that's either 30 yards long or is a hill or mound with a tree in the middle, It's hard to be everywhere at once, so again the dogs really come into their own Just out of intrest, being in Oz, do you loose alot of ferrets to snakes and the like? Never seen a snake in twenty plus years of Ferreting, have seen them when walking with a rifle. Touch wood i don't have any problems with snakes with either my Ferrets or Dogs.
