zini 1,939
Hi people, I met with Chris and Joey (AKA Reggaeman and Wuzzy) yesterday morning at 1030 hrs at my permission. After a check zero of our equipment in the hanger we were off for a drive about to see what was in the trees . The plan was to shoot some feather until 1400 hrs with my youngest lad and terrier with us and then go back to my house for a full cooked dinner with beer before nipping to the pub for a quick one and some pork scratchings before having a couple of hours lamping bunnies . The day kicked off great with Joey borrowing my HW100KT and taking the first shot at a woody sat low in the branches of a cherry tree. Joey likes to do things back to front so he shot the woody straight out the tree and onto the concrete before I actually got the range finder out its case . As it was laying there on the floor I lased the place where the bird was and was well impressed to see it being a full 40 metres (nice shot Joey fella) . The next shot was from Chris on a woody sat high in a tree at about 30 metres. The .177 pellet sailed on its way and down came Woody with a thump on the concrete . After a bit of a drive around Chris pulled off a double 30 metre collard dove trick one after another high in a tree. They both landed on the grass with a bang . Off we went again with Joey pulling off another great shot on a woody smacking him dead with a clinical shot. The next shot was from Chris hitting a feral off the roof and onto the concrete from 40 lased metres. On retrieval I noted that the pellet at gone in the heart and out the back of the bird . We then decided to go back to the hanger to have a coffee. There down the path was a feral pigeon just chilling out sat high on the hanger roof with not a care in the world. I watched Chris sneak down to a lamp post and then shoot it straight off the roof. I thought that the shot could be the contender of the shot of the day so I went to lase the distance from the lamp post to the roof where the bird was. (40 metres) he was drawing with Joey . After dinner and a beer we got ready for a night time session. The dog and my son were left at home and we headed back to the permission. We didn’t intend lamping long as the weather man had forecast bad weather so 2100 hrs was our cut off time . The only problem was that there were hardly any bunnies out last night and the ones that were, were sat deep in the undergrowth out of arms way . Joey got the first bunny of the night hitting it straight between the ears at 1 mil dot hold over (35 metres). It was a cracking shot and the bunny just rolled over dead . The next bunny also fell to Joey with a lovely head shot. I think that he is bonding with my HW100KT quite well, and I bet he now saves up his pennies to get one . The last bunny of the night was from Chris with a nice shot at about 25 metres straight threw the head . I tried my luck on one rabbit that was sat a mere 20 metres if that away and missed it. God knows how I missed, maybe over the top but I was very annoyed with myself to say the least . So annoyed was I that I didn’t really sleep that well thinking about the missed chance. All day and night I shot about 7 pellets in total. 5 to zero, 1 to kill the squizzer in the picture that I got before I met them both that morning with my son, and 1 on the missed rabbit . I got up this morning with a new day dawning and decided to make up for my crap shooting yesterday. Out came the R10 from its slip as I waited for the first corvid to land in my trees on the garden. Not long distant shots (23 metres) but there is something rewarding about watching corvids hit the deck hard . I actually shot 3 but the next doors moggy stole one and did a runner over the fence . Next time the terrorist is going out the door to sort it out . Zini. Quote Link to post

Just shows that if you get complacent like I was Mother Nature has the last laugh, and last night see did . Anyway I made up for it tonight pal with the 3 bunnies so I feel a lot better now . Phantom 631
Nice work there gents and an excellent read as always Si Its very reassuring to a lot of hunters (especially the newer ones) that someone such as yourself can miss a close range shot even if it is extemely rare. There are people on here who often stick up their fantastic shots but I've noticed only a few of us actually put up our missed shots. The same with people who make less than perfect shots, very few of us actually admit that we do it. Well done Phantom Quote Link to post
zini 1,939
Hi Tony and Davy, Your right lads everyone misses the easy 20 metre shots sometimes, and everyone makes the wounding shots which we all try to avoid. Thats part of learning to be a better shot. When Joey and Chris first started shooting with me i told them about all the rabbits ears id pierced on my permission. I think that they thought that i was trying to pull the wool over their eyes until we re shot a few but this time dead and examined their ears to see my old pellet holes . Anyone who says that they never miss or never wound i would say either dont shoot at all or is just a big fat liar . I havent missed a 20 metre - ish shot in ages as i know i have to shoot 1 mil dot hold under to make a clinical brain shot . You live and learn and then we go on to become better next time. Marksman 934
Not that you miss very often mate bur I think it would make a better and more honest film if you did include them. It shows a learner even an experienced hunter can miss Darryl Quote Link to post
