FightTheBan 1,147
Was out ferreting today for my third time this season, due to work commitments and college ive not been out as much as usual, but hopefully things will be better from now on. Left the house at 5.30 in the morning for the long drive up to a new bit of permission. Arrived there at 8.30 and after a tour of the estate and our permission, and the problem areas we set to work(LOOKED VERY VERY PROMISING ). The patch we wanted to ferret was a couple of grass fields with large round hills on them and rashy bankings, there were about 8 large warrens (easy 100 hole plus. We ferreted two of the large warrens in the morning, bolting and shooting 48 rabbits, looked prommising. We then stopped for lunch before going over to the other side of the field. In the afternoon the rabbits started becoming more sticky and became hard work in the finnish up. Had two deep digs (which is uncommon), one was nearly 4 foot and had to be very carefull as the soil was almost totally sand, making a cave in a real possibility. Got the ferrets out fine and ended up with 76 rabbits for our efforts, although we only managed to ferret 5 of the warrens. We could have easily done a hundred, if we started earlier and didnt have to dig, but these things happen. The ground was in North East Scotland and the permission covers over 8,000 acres (although most of its grouse moor and the rabbbits are in pockets where they are absolutely polluted with them!!). Its the kind of patch you could ferret till your blue in the face, and still kill a good bag. Good times, just wish it was closer. Ta for reading, would have been a much better read if i took pictures, but never mind. Cheers Edited December 12, 2009 by FightTheBan Quote Link to post

Jamie93 57
Well done mate. Do you sell many of the rabbits beacuase if you don't you must have a massive freezer Happy Hunting Jamie93 Quote Link to post
FightTheBan 1,147
Naw mate dont sell them. I would only get 50p a rabbit if there shotgunned, and its not rally worth the hassle. I eat some myself, keep a enough back that i dont have to buy ferret food and the rest i give out to the keepers im friendly with for middens and traps etc. It keeps them sweet, and in return your usually the first they phone if thyve got rabbits, pigeons, foxes etc to shoot. So its not a bad trade really. Quote Link to post
