whin 463
lurchers mate ruuning dogs and some times spaniels , the odd time a terrier but to many holes sometimes to lose them down , what do you use for rabbits and general bushing , i prefer colli types and the saluk wait like hawks for abolt but even they start going in cover on good days Quote Link to post
Sighthound 49
my favourite thing nowadays. Spaniel and lurcher and a saluki pup. I average only two or three. Quote Link to post
Big bald beautiful 1,231
Terriers and 2 whippets, its more a nice walk and the dogs hunting then trying to bag numbers. 5 rabbits is the most i think but usually only 2 or 3 a week. its the joy of not knowing what the dogs will push out, everything from mice to roe have been pushed from cover. 1 Quote Link to post
whin 463
had seven one morning on good land ,but localy if im out for an hour or two you maybe get 3 or 4 as they are getting thin on the ground ,down the borders we used to have great days trainig spaniel and useing lurchers to catch bolters al along the valleys there were small streams the rabbits would hide tite into the bankings and the little cockers would flush them had mink hares all sorts on days like this, miss these days as we had some great sport usaly late spring or autum was best all the young ones lying out in cover when the gtround is dry still, ran dogs ragged ,lucky there were burns to cool them down or small streams if your english lol, never went for numbers but there places you could had got double figures, we used to hunt seven till ten then go to bar for one and away home for the nite time foray a totaly diffrent game snoops Quote Link to post

snoopdog 1,256
i enjoy just a mooch about on the bunnies ..it makes a change from running the big land and lamping ...i go as much as i can which is not often enough because running the big land is where i normally go.. and lamping through the week so my times pretty much taken up ....i will be doing alot more over the xmas hols inbtween the coursing ...i remember last year i did over two thousand miles last xmas hols....on the whities up scotlamd down the fens and lamping .....but i can honestly say mooching about is the most relaxing part of hunting off the all...its arse cleching stuff down the fens...brilliant and i love it ...but it aint exactly relaxing ....nor is lamping....i had a cracking day the other day just wandering about with my munchy and the terrier and my young lad...we baggged about a dozen which is about normal ...my best day was 18 with the munchy ....to be honest i cant be bothered with ferrets its not my thing ...i like the run ..i suppose bolting thems a bit of fun but you cant beat sitting at a good view point and watch yer dog find his own quarry,...imop......anyway some good replies lads...nice to know other folks enjoy it too.... pointer 543
it depends on the land, lurchers that hunt well can take good bags in the dales from a two hour walk out.i dont do very much daytime rabbiting now due to doing other types of hunting but ive always enjoyed a walk out........for me its all about seeing dogs using their noses weather its lurchers, terriers, the wirehair or hounds. Tyla 3,179
We go every sunday. Never big numbers but its always good fun, you never know what will turn up, had rabbits, moorhens, pigeons even the odd roe gets flushed. We use 4 JRTs and my mongrel terrier to flush to my two lurchers. Herwick has recently got another lurcher pup to even things up a bit next season. its definately the most relaxing way to hunt, no gear to worry about just us and the dogs. i love watching them all working together as a pack, mine were all over the place when we first started but the more they work together with the terriers the better they get! sussexpoacher 45
friend and me often go for a mooch with our lurchers, its great watching the dogs hunting up scents and then surrounding the cover waiting for the humans to get in there an flush the critters out, we average 3/4 bunnies best was 7. my big lad is head flushing dog when working the rough grass pups sister tags along with him as my pup an her mam wait for the bolt, organised chaos at its best Quote Link to post
lofti 579
thats my favorite sort of hunting Snoop, wish i had a terrier at times but then again think i would be worried about it going to ground. had a walk with my mrs and my son on footpaths in the dales not long back and ended up with 8. cant mooch as much in the day now due to working the day light hours never get any big numbers normally 2 or 3 but for me you cant beat it as you get to see all the other stuff thats around lofti.
