mattyg 1,862
ive heard a few people say that its ok to break open antibiotic capsules and pour directly onto a wound. i was just wondering if this is ok and if so how much?
Guest Jane Russell
Better to get in some antibiotic ointment which is designed for the purpose. Jane

twelsh 345
your best off using hydrogen peroxide mate its very good you can get it from your pharmacy if you get some get 20 volts hydrogen peroxide and get a small tub and put 10ml of hydrogen peroxide in the tub then add 5ml of boiling water to it you use a syringe and carefuly go around the edges and work into the centre this stuff works from inside to outside of the wound i rate it 100% well worth a try
Guest Jane Russell
I'll never forget cleaning out a bloody great Boa Constrictor's mouth with hydrogen peroxide. It wasn't too impressed but it certainly does the trick! Jane

Squirrel_Basher 17,100
Its all very well giving advice on wounds to a stranger but it matters a hell of a lot on what sort of wound it is .If its a puncture wound then DO NOT use peroxide in any strength as it will kill tissue as well as bacteria. I bathe the dog using teetree shampoo and allow the dog to shake itself ,the action of which expels any water trapped inside thus leaving a clean hole.A bad puncture wound needs to be dealt with from the inside by the correct use of antibiotics . A slash wound that dosnt require stitching is best kept clean with salt water ,any slash over 1inch is deemed stitchable in my book but not before its cleansed thoroughly.A slash wound rarely goes wrong so does not require the mandatory jab of penicillin . Teetree oil works well as a natural antibiotic and if dabbed on sparingly will keep it clean ..If you intend to stitch it yourself then incorpoate a sterile drain tube at the lowest edge and keep this clean as well as the wound .The drain speeds up the healing.Minor slash wounds are best cleansed only.Rat bites of any sort should be thoroughly washed out and treated with an WEAK disenfectant/water mix then left.As soon as a scab develops ,clean only the edges so as not to disturbs the healing process .
