Its all very well giving advice on wounds to a stranger but it matters a hell of a lot on what sort of wound it is .If its a puncture wound then DO NOT use peroxide in any strength as it will kill tissue as well as bacteria. I bathe the dog using teetree shampoo and allow the dog to shake itself ,the action of which expels any water trapped inside thus leaving a clean hole.A bad puncture wound needs to be dealt with from the inside by the correct use of antibiotics .

A slash wound that dosnt require stitching is best kept clean with salt water ,any slash over 1inch is deemed stitchable in my book but not before its cleansed thoroughly.A slash wound rarely goes wrong so does not require the mandatory jab of penicillin . Teetree oil works well as a natural antibiotic and if dabbed on sparingly will keep it clean ..If you intend to stitch it yourself then incorpoate a sterile drain tube at the lowest edge and keep this clean as well as the wound .The drain speeds up the healing.Minor slash wounds are best cleansed only.Rat bites of any sort should be thoroughly washed out and treated with an WEAK disenfectant/water mix then left.As soon as a scab develops ,clean only the edges so as not to disturbs the healing process .
