love_coursing 1
hi, everything has been very helpful to me so far on this site and was hoping i could get some advice from what seem like a group of very experienced hunters. i am 16 and have just received my FAC. 1)am i allowed to own a gun at this age if my dad gives it to me? if yes am i allowed to take it to my mums house where i have my own cabinet for a shotgun as she has no licences? 2)i am looking for a gun for mostly rabbits but also for foxes is there any gun which will be effective for both without damaging the meat of the rabbit to much? ross16689 1
Surely if you have already received your firearms certificate you should know which rifle to use for fox/rabbit. Whch calibres do you have specified on your certificate? Edited December 10, 2009 by ross16689 Quote Link to post
Deker 3,478
Surely if you have already received your firearms certificate you should know which rifle to use for fox/rabbit. Whch calibres do you have specified on your certificate? ....and where did you say you lived and intended to keep your guns and cabinet and where did the police inspect your cabinet, and what did the police say about you owning/buying a gun and what calibre did you get and what did the police say about shooting bunnies and foxes with it etc???? I'm more than happy to try and offer help and advice where I can, but I simply don't get your post, doesn't add up to me! Edited December 10, 2009 by Deker Quote Link to post
chippy28 1
is it a fac or sgc you have got? Quote Link to post
bicykillgaz 1
you can only keep your gun in the cabinate that the firearms officer inspected so if that was at your dads thats where it stays, i have shot loads of fox's with my .22lr but only at close range around 50yrds no further as i wouldn't want to just wound it, these are questions you should already know the answers to though your flo should have explained ownership rules to you i think you should ring him, surely your dad can answer same of these questions too. bicykillgaz 1
i suppose it might be possible but you'd have to ask your flo to be sure mate, i think you'd be better getting a .22 for rabbits if you want to keep the meat, then give it a year and put in for a dedicated rifle for foxes something like a .222 or .223 but speak to you firearms officer to see what he thinks your best options are. but i'd do your homework on .22lr .17hmr 222 and 223 so any question he ask you can answer then have all your questions worked out which you want to ask him.
