just getting into it

i have just started getting into it with the dogs and the lamp but i wouldnt mind giving ferreting ago and how do i go about it e.g what i need what i do, can i put a shop bought ferret down a hole or dose it need somkind of traing i havent realy got the money for all the gagets n gizzmoz lol,, so if any of you could put me in the right direction i would be greatful,, thanks si,,

Woudnt buy any of these 'shop bought ferrets' you speak of, personally i have never seen any for sale in pet shops and would stay well clear.

 

Buy a wee jill (preferably 2, there very social animals), must be off good WORKING stock and everything should fall into place.

 

Read right through this section and buy a few books, try and go out with someone experienced first (to see if you like it before you buy an animal that needs looking after).

Not always the case mate, i've had some belter in the past that have come from ferrets that haven never seen a hole let alone a rabbit

well it would be a shop bought any ways because i dont know anbody that breeds ferrets and i no a few pet shop that sell them i was just going to try and enter it slowly but surly and see how it gose,, ant recomenditions on which type of ferret will come on better that otheres?? any help will be helpfull,, thanks si

Maybe a good idea to by a couple of DVD's from Ebay on ferreting, that should give you a starting point, then work it out from there, but it would be best if you had someone take you out for a day and show you how to go on, there are some knowlagable folk on here if you get stuck

you could try getting a rescue ferret. always ferrets looking for homes and you can get them already nip trained and ready to work. although my jill still nips. lol

I reccomend that you don't buy one from the shop. There are people and rescues with ferrets all over the country mate, look in the ferrets for sale section. Also you will need at least 30 purse nets, a ferret box, a large ferret proof hutch, constant food supply, bedding, and it would be a great idea for a locator and collar. Take your time and get well educated before you get a ferret because there is a lot more to it than chucking a ferret down the hole and then out pops dinner. Hope this helps.
