Polecats eating less

Recommended Posts

As above really, I have 2 polecats 26 weeks old, both are a good size, strong and lively as they should be, had them out 3 times now after rabbits and are bolting them well...I have noticed over the last couple of weeks that they are eating less, they are fed solely on dry ` James wellbeloved`...Anyone had this?...I did wonder If It might be the weather, as they can sleep for england, and are reluctant to go and get cold when they feed....Cheers...Sparko

They tend to eat more in the colder months generally , but just stick there food in the sleeping area if there not touching it at all , failing that if theres no improvment maybe a vet check to rule anything medical out

Same here mine are eating less unless they have been out then they can eat for scotland

mine have been eating less of wellbeloved for last few days , bit did work them sunday & they had a good feed on rabbit & heart in the box, when just fed on welbeloved they seem to eat loads, got some more meat to feed them so the dry stuff is off the menu,

Well bugger me....It seems It was just a blip...I took their food away completely for a full day, and then reintroduced It as a half measure the following day, and they took everything, so I will now Increase It slowly up to their normal Intake...I got this advice from an old guy I know who has kept them all his life, and It works....Well It worked for mine anyway, he also suggested having a food free day every week as In the wild polecats etc dont feed everyday, has anyone else heard this?...Cheers...Sparko

No wild animal eats everyday if it's a carnivore, starve one day and feed for the next 6 days. Just keep an eye on them with the cold weather coming in and remember a human cold transfers over quicky to them and they can get sick pretty quickly compared to us humans
