I second bicykillgaz's comments,

I got my .22 licence about 5 months ago and I bought myself a CZ-453 (which is the same as a 452 but you can push the trigger blade forward and it gives you a light pull set trigger)I bought the heavy bareld varmint version with a 22 inch barrel and it is really really accurate (when I get it right anyway!!) I cannot recomend it highly enough, however I wouldn't bother with the 453 I would go for the 452 as I NEVER use the set trigger set up.

I looked very closly at the new Browning T Bolt first and I couldnt see the difference was worth 200 odd quid, although I did very much like the straight pull action. I also looked at the anshutz but again I couldnt see the difference was worth paying for. Plus I dont think they are any more accurate.

The other thing I would mention about the CZ is that the 10 shot magazines are only about £27. The Anshutz are about £50ish and the brownings are about £55 which if you are like me and want a couple of mags for ease soon mounts up!

Hope that helps

I bought my first .22 rimmy about 3 years ago and i also opted for the Cz Varmint.

The rifle has performed faultlessly , and given the price of the cz range of guns i dont think that you can possibly go wrong.

Mine is fitted with a Walther 4-12-50 ir scope , a scoplevel , and a parker hale silencer,

thanks for that lads how much is a cz 452 with a good mod?

Anschutz and Sako may lead the pack but VERY few people will notice any difference in performance to the CZ.

I have 3 CZ Rimfires, they do everything I want!

I have the light barrel on ALL mine, no need for the heavy barrel at all for field work, you will not find any difference in accuracy, just weight, simply a matter of preference!

My 453 varmint with a 22 inch barrel cost £335 I got a SAK mod for about £30, the scope mounts again were about £30 and I went for a Bushnell 3200 elite in 3-9 x 50 (which is crystal clear and I am WELL impressed with and is brilliant lamping in low light) which I got on sale from the gun shop which was reduced to £250 from £400 I also got two 10 round clips at £27 a throw each.

I bought it all from Wilson and Wilson in kent, they are brilliant and really knowledgable, plus because I bought it all from them in one go they gave me a blinding deal, thats why all the prices I have quoted are 'about'!

But if you are local I really would give Wilson and Wilson a shout. I cant recomend them highly enough.

Best of luck

Get a carbine, no need for a varmint barrel either for a .22 its just extra weight.. if you want the quality buy a sako, weihrauch or anchuntz, if you want to save a few quid and get something a little bit rougher get a cz and fit a trigger kit.... If I had to go and buy another I'd be grabbing a thumbhole carbine anschutz...
