Squirrel_Basher 17,100
Out very early this morning to make the most of the weather and what a morning it was .Couldnt wait for dawn to arrive so went to a spot that is plagued with foxes at the moment and with lambing around the corner ,i need to get a few dead .Just out the other side of the farm yard ,i spotted charlie in amongst the sheep but not phased by the green filter at all .On sticks ,i called him to within 50 yards ,just clear of the sheep that were bunching by now and shot him in the chest .Ive pretty good at holing the lamp whilst shooting instead of a scope mounted affair which is too heavy i find .Just picked him up when a movement caught my eye and thee no more than 10 yards to my right was another fox .It winded me and ran about 40 yards into the field ,stopped and number two was in the bag.Dawn was on its way now and i still had a few miles to drive to my intended first stop .Cracking sunrise for anyone that saw it ,really makes up for the rain recently ,well almost . The next spot is where Martin and me saw the decent muntie buck last outing .Got in position just as the first deer stepped out of cover ,any later and i would of bumped her on arrival but lady luck was with me .I waited until she was a good way from cover as experience has taught me that any mistakes with the shot and i would pay dearly as they invariably run straight back to cover and finding ,despatching is that much harder .Just about to take her and another sauntered out from the same place and wandered over to the first .These were both mature does and i wasnt relishing the drag but then again he who dares Shot the first and wasnt surprised to see the other still standing ,watching the fallen so she joined the bag ,both shot in the chest at about 130yards .I wanted to try another spot so set about the gralloch and the long drag to the truck .Next spot is where the farmer dosnt want any deer about at all as hes a market gardener amongst other things .Pulling up on the farm track i could see two more does out on his veg ,just through a gateway and only about 60 yds away .I slid out the passenger side and got the rifle on sticks.Shot the nearest doe in the neck and with that the other ran only to stop near a small wood but sky lined .I waited while she skirted a fence and went down into a dip before shooting her in the chest .As i gralloched the first the farmer drove up well pleased ,hed been watching from a distance and wondering if id get the pair .All in all a great morning with probably an afternoon stalk if the weather hold ,fingers crossed . Ps forgot camera which is why no location pics but in my yard will have to do . Edited December 8, 2009 by foxdropper Quote Link to post
