dog biting tail - help!!!

Recommended Posts

Would like some suggestions please. My 6 month old bitch had an accident (a farmers gate fell on her tail) had to take her to the vet, they amputated part of her tail dressed it put a cone on her head. She managed to destroy the dressing and the cone, this happened several times. I devised a new dressing for her tail myself, which involved covering the tail in foam insulation pipe and heavily strapping it. She managed to bite through the heavy strapping and chewed the end of the pipe until she got to the end of her tail and started munching it. so I thought lets put a bit of plastic pipe over the end of the insulation pipe and then strap it. Well that stopped her chewing the end of the pipe off but somehow she worked out to chew into the side of the insulation pipe and pulled her tail out of the side and started chomping at the end of her tail again. As a last resort i uncovered the tail and put a muzzle on her to stop her biting the tail. Guess what? I woke up this morning to find her looking out of her kennel at me with a cheesy grin. Where was the muzzle I thought? It was inside the kennel and chewed into little bits. Shes a clever dog and has totally out thought me I am lost for any more ideas. It's cost me over £500 in vets fees, shes been on anti biotics for 6 weeks and I just dont know what to do any more. I Would like any genuine sensible suggestions please.

Thanks for that, I'll give it a try. Yes theres some bull and Saluki in her. She's very boisterous I would even go so far as to say bonkers lol. However on the plus side she's a very intelligent dog.
