Swampy 147
Hi all, ive had card off the rspca asking for me to phone them so the missis did and they phoned back saying they want to see my dogs because a neighbour has complained that my dogs are locked in a shed all the time (4 grand kennels) never let out or walked ( every day in the morning before work and evey nite after work)and in a scruffy condition, i prob spend more on looking after my dogs than they spend on they children. i have a 7/16 bull grey bitch pup 8 months old and a bull grey x minshaw dog 2year old. having trouble downloading pics will try again to show kennels and dogs. but want to know do i tell him to f**k off or leave him in. have nothing to hide but worried bout the breeding of them, dont want to loose them. ATB Buddy Hi buddy. No way would i let the rspca go any where near my dog,s without a court order.Like your self got nothing to hide. But I HATE THEM WITH A PASSION. bicykillgaz 1
if you've nothing to hide mate which i'm sure you've not, just let him in give him a cuppa and as he's leaving make sure your twat of a neighbour see's you shaking his hand and make it look like your the best of friends it'll really piss your neighbour off, if you tell them to f**k off they'll beleive you have something to hide and probably get a copper to come with them next time and it'll be more hasstle than its worth. you've done nothing wrong all it will do is put there minds at rest and they take any other reports with a big handful of salt. just wondering what you meant about been worried about the breeding? what dogs are they? if by bull grey you mean pit-bull x greyhound most copper/rspca wouldn't know the difference between a pitbull and a staffy anyway so tell them its a staffy x greyhound

rob190364 2,594
I'm a bit confused as to why everyone hates the RSPCA so much.....most people on here respect their dogs and the RSPCA is there to fight against people that don't respect their dogs, by being cruel to them or neglecting them or whatever. I can understand the anger against the neighbour that reported it because quite frankly any busybody neighbour that's making up stupid stories wants locking in a shed and starving themselves! Surely if we want to give hunting/working with dogs a good name we should be demonstrating to the RSPCA how well our animals are kept? Obviously if the RSPCA have reports that a dog is being mistreated, whether founded or not!, they are going to have to check it out, otherwise when they get genuine reports they would ignore them and the dogs that are actually being mistreated would be left to suffer! And I agree with that other post, the best way of getting one over on that stupid neighbour is to welcome the RSPCA to have a look at the dogs and let the neighbour see you smiling/shaking their hand etc on the way out! FightTheBan 1,147
People hate the RSPCA because they think theyre a law onto themselves, and try and feck genuine working dogmen and gamekeepers at every turn. 99% despise people who work dogs/animals, most of them are just glorified anties. bicykillgaz 1
my complaint with rspca is that they waste funding, i had a knock at the door about 6 months back and it was a lad with an rspca bib on and a clip board asking for a donation of £8 so i let him in and was telling him about my dog which came from an rspca approved rescue center, ill start with the dog story first as the two are linked -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- just after christmas me and my wife started looking in rescue centres for a dog we are both soft as shit when it comes to dogs so breed wasn't that much of an issue, and even though we have our favourites was just looking to give a dog a home that needed one we had planned to go to a local-ish one at a place called ingham between lincoln and scunthorpe i was gonna take the afternoon off work and go with her, i got to work and my gaffa rang in he'd been having chest pains and gone to hospital (turned out to be nothing serious) so i couln't get the afternoon off, i told her to still go and see if there was anything she was keen on and if so put a deposit and we'd go back at the weekend so i could have a look at it. she arranged for her mum to go with her (she had worked in kennel all her life up until she was in her 30's), they got there it was jan 5th and really icey, they got to the front desk and show to the kennels they walked through a nice looking boarding section then to what they described as a shed with runs in, my mother in-law said in all her time in kennels she'd never seen anything like it every dog was worse than the last there was a staffy with no fur at all above the shoulders and covered with pussy sore's she said it was bad sarcoptic mange worse she'd ever seen, then next to it was was a little black and white staffy sat one of them plastic beds with no blanket food or water bowl and the kennel looked as if it had just been jet sprayed the dog was covered head to toe in shit had bald patches and sores and cuts all over him, my mother in-law offered it a gravy bone and it barely managed to hobbled to the run door took the bone went back to the bed and flopped back and ate the gravy bone, it couldn't even get up for a second one, my wife asked the girl what was wrong with it she said 'he's been sedated he's going to be put down with that' and pointed to a rottweiller which looked in perfect health so they asked why the rottweiller was going to be putt down to be told 'it was brought in this morning and its snapped at one of us so its getting put down' it was at that point i got the phone call my wife in tears making no sense at all then margaret my mother in-law came on and explained about the staffy so i said just get it (i would have had them both if we'd got the room), they said they wanted they staffy and the girl said again that he was going to be put down and they questioned why she said 'oh he's not eating and no one wants him because he looks so bad, he's been hear a month so he going to be put to sleep' they said again we wanted him and the lass said she would have to ask her boss, along came the boss and first words was 'are you sure? there on there way to pick them up, my wife said yes 'are you sure you want to take the risk he is in a state' my wife said yes again 'right well its upto you but i wouldn't advise it' then she walked off. they got to the front counter with the dog which my wife had to carry and she put him in her car then went back in, the lass said right i need you to sign this form, wife asked what it was? 'it's to say when he left here he left in perfect health' my wife said 'well he isn't in perfect health you've just seen him he can't even walk!' the boss said from behind her 'well if you don't sign it you can't have him' at which point the rottweiller was been led out so she just signed it. she looked at a sign behind her which said all dogs was vaccinated upon entry so asked when he would need his boosters? the lass said 'oh he's not been done' margaret said 'how come if he's been hear a month?' the reply was 'the woman who does them didn't like him, do you want it doing now?' then grabbed the stuff from out the back and said that she shouldn't really be doing it and gave him the injection. then she said 'thats £83' my wife had only expected it to be about 50-60 so her and margaret stood there and coppered up and had £81 and was told they couldn't take him unless they had the other £2!!!!! she ran to her car and by some miracle found exactly £2 in coppers paid and left. when she got to my work i opened the car door and i will never forget that little face looking back at me with his eyes all glazed over covered in shit and litterally skin and bones you could even see his thigh bones, every rib, vertibre, and little notch in his tail so i scooped him up and my wife said she was off to pets at home to get bed and the rest as we had nothing! i rang my brother for the number of his vets and got an emergency appointment. got there and walked in i had him wrapped in a blanket which she got from pets at home. i got called in and unwrapped him and the vet said where did we find him? we explained and you could see his face fill up with anger he said 'you've just paid for this in this state?' to which we both said 'well he wasn't stayin there' the vet appologised and said he meant he couldn't beleive they would charge for an animal which looked this bad, he said look 'i can't asses him properly as i don't know whats down to him been so ill and whats down to him been sedated, ill give you some stuff to hydrate him and if you can see if you can get him too eat some rice but only a little and see if he make the night and come back tomorow same time'we explained about them making us sign that bit of paper to which he replied it means nothing you've had the dog examined by a vet the same day and i'm telling you now we'll be lucky if he survives the night, not only has he nearly starved to death as well as god knows what but they've pumped a live vaccine in to him and he's now got to fight that'. so i wrapped him up and walked out to reception to pay and register him and the receptionist/nurses was asking what was wrong so unwrapped him with that they all started crying and one got up went out the back and brought a load of hydration stuff and big seringes a pack of convelesence food and said it was all free, i spent the night down stairs with him seringe feeding him water and we went back the next day, the vet was supprised he'd made it. he gave him a thorough examination and said to try feeding him 4-8 tiny meals of rice with a bit of the convelesence food mixed in as it had minerals and everything else in which he needed and booked another appointment for 2 days time. i had him at work with me luckilymy boss was adog lover and we never got anyone higher up come round without warning so i fed him as instrucked for 1 day but when he actually got up and about his legs made horrendous cracking noises as he walked which we got the vet to check, turned out he had got a torn cruxciate ligament too and just been left with it. when we first weighed him he weighed 11.0kg now he weighs 22.0kgs and has turned out to be a fantastic dog in every sense. we explained to the people in pets at home when we went to select some food for him when he was well enough to have normal food, and they said they use to donate food to them anything getting to the end of its shelf life mainly as it was safe to eat still but they couldn't sell it, but they stopped as they have had so many reports of the same kind of stuff -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- back to the rspca lad- i explained the story to him and he said 'i'm sorry but i'm just a subcontractor i don't work for the rspca' i can write down and comments you have but i cant actually do anything' it turns out he gets paid £300 pound basic each week plus a £10 bonus for every person he gets to sign up to £8 per month direct debit which is usually 4 a day so he was getting £580 a week to canvas for the rspca when there are dogs in rspca kennels in them sort of states so i cancelled the direct debit details and f****d him off. thanks for reading it all if you managed i know it went on for a bit, basically i think there funding is spent in the wrong areas when they are spending 580 on someone a week to get them 160 a week back when dogs are kept like that is outrageous! gary the pictures of him layed down and stood eating were taken nearly 2 weeks after we got him so obviously he'd been washed and having several small meals a day for two weeks so don't really give the best indication of how thin he was and the one of him sitting was taken after about 6 months of tlc Edited December 8, 2009 by bicykillgaz
Fabapocalypse 35
I've had issues with RSPCA "approved" kennels too. I got a terrier from one ten years ago, it was around this time of year. I was supposed to pick her up in the new year because of the not-rehoming-animals-at-Christmas thing, then two days before Christmas they rang and said they couldn't get her to eat, did I want to try, so home she came... The kennels were cold, wet, smelly, unlit and had a strip of mouldy carpet each down the middle. There was no bedding of any kind. The terrier had been spayed a day or so previously and the dressing was soaked and filthy. She stank. She went on to recover (she ate straight away too, so I don't know what their issue was with feeding her), and I thanked my lucky stars that I didn't have to go back to that kennel, it was so depressing. The kennel the RSPCA dogs were in was a wing of a private kennel belonging to a prize winning (BIG prize winning) breeder and her husband, a vet. You didn't get to see the wing with their own dogs in but I hope for their sake it was better than the RSPCA side. At the beginning of this year I unfortunately had to go back there to collect a rescue lurcher, a saluki cross. He was a literal bag of bones with the squits running down his legs and had been there ten days. When the diarrhea was mentioned, they said "Oh yeah he had the runs when he came in but he's getting more solid now"; the dog had been given no treatment at all, not even kept warm... which considering the co-owner of the kennel was a vet I found hard to excuse. The dog went straight to our vet where he stayed for 48hours on a drip. I swear the same mouldy strips of carpet were in the kennels, too. The thing is these kennel owners don't take in RSPCA dogs for the love of it, the RSPCA pay them. So really maybe they should get their own house in order before they start investigating others. Didn't they just spend some huge amount of money on a new headquarters or something?

littlefish 585
If people would stop breeding dogs indiscriminately there would be less pressure on these animal welfare organisations! The shelters are constantly full of unwanted dogs of all types. Obviously they can't all be rehomed. Dogs today, like a lot of other things, are seen as fashionable and disposable. It makes me so mad! It also pisses me off that there are so many dogs on the for sale section of this site. I just don't get why people want to sell/swop dogs all the time rather than put time in to training them. Rant over.

Couldnt agree more.....but you really think they would show it on tv ? i have my doubts....i mean, look how long it took for someone to admit on tv what a disgrace crufts is !! Even if someone did do an " exposee " on the rspca....it would be hushed up and brushed under the carpet.....we only watch what they want us to watch.
