pencoed hunter 7
How do you train him to jump just get throw a ball over something to get him to jump then retrieve it back to you? Quote Link to post
killa-combo 142
i usualy start by puting a board up in the kennal so the dog has to jump it to get out. or block a gate way with a board and get it to jump that then just move on to higher things, trying not to push the dog to hard and i dont do barb wire till i no the dogs confident enuf to do it ... jinnyfizz 5
You shouldn't even be thinking of making a pup jump until it's at least a year old and the bones are strong and fixed in their place! It may seem as though they can do it, but it will shorten their useful active life by years!!! Quote Link to post

It may seem as though they can do it, but it will shorten their useful active life by years!!! Its only my opinion but i always put a small board in the pen at feeding time hunger always works when they get use to jumping it swap it for a bit of mesh nothing sharp and keep making it higher by the time you come to work them the will jump when the could walk under and if you can get them to chase a ball and bring it back there is no better way to work a dog good luck with yours Quote Link to post
mwncidur 0
We stopped our 2 from jumping until they were over 1 year old. Only so that their bones and joints were fully grown and lessen the risk of injury. They will now clear a barbed fence or 5 bar gate without batting an eye. Quote Link to post
dogger 100
my pups 10 months and clearing a 6foot fence like its not even there. Now she,s a bugger to keep in the garden and shes only 24"tts kangaroo x alligator judging by the size of its jaws Quote Link to post

It may seem as though they can do it, but it will shorten their useful active life by years!!! by years ! are you sure, ive known dogs jump at the early ages and carry on working until 14 year old, catching 20 bunnys a night, i agree you gotta be careful with any pup jumping, but shortening its life by years is mad, Quote Link to post
