koiboy 0
HI, I went on my first days beating today and it was brillant really enjoyed it. I got given 1 cock and 1 hen. I have heard skinning is the best way instead of cooking. How long do you hang them for or do you skin and gut them straight away. Would they be alright hanging in my garage? Thanks Edited December 5, 2009 by koiboy

Countrykid 1
Yeah around 5-8 days I would prefer. Last Saturday I got 2 brace of pheasant and I plucked and gutted them yesterday, dinner today If your garage is cold and no flies around then it should be fine.

Cameron Burns 1
if you like chicken you'll love pheasant- it is a lot more filling juicer and tastier

rjimmer 4
Someone told a friend of mine to hang them by the tail feathers until the body drops to the floor. He mis-heard them and hung them by the neck until the tail feathers fell to the floor. Not a good idea!
Cajunrules 8
Personally hang them about 5 days; hope you enjoyed the beating and many more hereafter. Cheers
BLACKBOB 9
Take into account how hard they have been hit, a hard hit bird wont last as long as a lightly pricked bird. If i remember right i once read that a shot bird shouldnt be hung for more than 3 days, i never leave mine longer than that. It also affects the taste as the longer they hung the stronger the flavour and it becomes more gamey. Cheers bob
North Country Boy 0
I think its all down to personal preference, try leaving them a day longer than the last one you hung until you find out how gamey you like your neat.
