whippet or greyhound

Recommended Posts

I have a border collie bitch and was woundering what you guys thought i should breed her with because i was told that a border collie adds brains and stamina to the mix but what should i breed her with greyhound whippet or saluki?

Depends what you want out of the offspring really?

iv thought about having a collie for running if lurchers get too on top mabey a 3/4 collie 1/4 grey so it has abit more speed but looks nothing like a lurcher then you could walk anyware without getting hassle from pricks with a problem with lurchers

i think i read on here that a collie was used for lamping and was good,

What about putting a Whippet/grey over her? This dog's dam was a big old working hill collie, he sire was a 3/4 grey 1/4 whippet. She stood about 23" TTS. Unfortunately she got ran over at about 12 months old when some kid opened a garden gate to pet her, but she was developing really nicely. Had a fair lick of pace on her too. :(

did this about eight years ago, still have a pup out of the litter but is pritty much useless now! not really sharp enough to make good rabbit dogs, not hare dogs either. can catch rabbits when young but lost the speed and agility too young now left with a dog that isnt much use. i would go down the greyhound route though for size give them a better chance. with the whippt you will end up with small heavy dogs. personally wouldnt do it again or even buy that cross, they are very limited. atb.

anything with half collie isn't going to be hare dog, may catch the odd one. but either putting a whippet or a greyhound to her could produce a good rabbit dog. does she work?

she has done a fair bit of rabbiting and she is quite good but with the extra pace of a greyhound or saluki i think the pups would be fairly good working dogs
