Bunny bashing with Reggaeman, Wuzzy and Kev1986

Hi all here is the post from last nights bunny shooting session that me, Reggaeman, Wuzzy and Kev1986 went on.

I picked Kev up from his house just on the outskirts of Darlington at about 1810 hrs and we then drove back the 30 minutes to my permission and straight into the my zero range to have a look at Kevs BSA Lightning to see if it had lost power as he thought.

A chronograph session before Chris and Joey arrived proved that the Lightning has lost power and was just pushing out 8.5 FP with Webley Accupels :wallbash: .

On closer inspection I spotted that the tiny seal in the breech was split so loosing power that way. Not a problem though as it will only cost about £2 to fix and its a 2 minute job to replace it so hopefully next time Kev comes up he will be running at 11.5FPs again  .

Chris and Joey arrived at 1900 hrs and met us at the indoor zero range. I gave Chris his new toy the Air Arms S510 carbine to have a good look at and he seemed pretty happy to say the least.

(There was a smile from ear to ear)

After mounting the Tasco 6-24x50 IR AO scope on the new rifle he was ready for zeroing it. The first shot was high left on the back stop so we adjusted him in clicks of 10 until after about 6 shots Chris put a pellet straight in the bull. One more shot to confirm that the 510 was spot on and Chris put a second shot into the tiny bulls eyes at 30 lased metres, job done :drink: .

I decided to drive for the lads first off so offered Joey the use of my new Weihrauch HW100KT to see what he thought of it. He must have been impressed with it as he never used his own rifle all night leaving it in his car and quite happy to put 16 grain FX pellets into bunnies brains with precision :good: .

It wasnt long before I spotted my first rabbit in the red filtered light. Joey was sat in the back of the car and zoomed in on it like a Kestrel with a set of binoculars. A dull pathetic putt from the Weihrauch 100KT and the bunnys brains were spread all over the grass. (Nice shot mate) :victory: .

Soon after the first shot Joey locked onto his second and third bunnies and yet again the 100KT removed their brains with the skill of a physician  .

Next was the turn of Chris with the new 510. We drove around to the clay pigeon range and there sat at a paced 41 medium sized paces was a bunny just chilling out in the lamp. Out came the 510 and wallop down went the bunny. At this moment in time it was the shot of the night so far. A shot any man would be proud of :notworthy: .

Next we went for a walk around a newer permission that I have shot on before with Festa. In a stubble field was a bunny laid down thinking that it couldnt been seen. (It was wrong). Chris raised the 510 from an unsupported standing position and shot it straight through the neck killing it and sending it rolling in the mud. After examining the position and range to the bunny I noted that the range was a good 33 metres. (new shot of the night). That lad can shoot :gunsmilie: .

I think at this point either Chris or Joey shot another one with their usual accuracy before it was my turn to swap the driving with Joey.

I said a little prayer to the shooting God and off we went. The first 2 for me were simple 30 metres bunnies. All I could see in the long grass was 1 red eye each time but thats all was needed as the 100KT knocked them over with style and a bit of flipping around in the grass before they were stone dead.

The third bunny for me was elevated and sat on a bank at about 25 metres max. I asked Joey to shuffle the car forwards twice to ensure that the bush that it was hiding between was clear of my pellets trajectory. At about three quarters of a mil dot hold under the pellet went on its path going in 1 eye and out the other. This bunny didnt kick about and was dead straight away. I think Kev appreciated that shot by the look on his face ;) .

Luckily for me most of the rabbits were on my side of the car so I got the next shot too. This one was my favourite and stole me the shot of the night from Chris much to his displeasure :o .

It was sat in a field at over 40 metres maybe 43 metres and it was eating grass with its head bobbed down. I placed the cross hairs 2 and a bit mil dots above its brain and slipped the second stage on the 100KT. The bunny rolled straight over dead as a dead thing. On inspection back at the car the bunny had been hit just behind the ear. (shot of the night goes to Si) :whistling: .

Kev had a few shots at close range bunnies sat in the front of the conifer plantations, say 15 to 20 metres but to be fair to him his gun was really poorly and he was struggling to judge the aim off which I think we all would have been in the same boat if it was us shooting with it  . Next time Kev Im sure you will be hammering the bunnies on my permission. If you dont manage to get it fixed before next time Ill bring along the beast for you to shoot Kev (my BSA R10) :boogie: .

My final shot of the night was a 30 metres shot at a bunny who was sat on the side of a track going down to a sewage work. To hit this bunny I needed to fit the pellet through a fence without any obstructions. The bunny was sat on its hind legs with its back to us cleaning itself. I placed the cross hairs on the back of its head and pulled the trigger. (smack) and down went the rabbit. It rolled over and then flipped to the left like a mad rabbit on speed straight into the brambles. Could I flip find it, but I bet Mr Fox did later on  .

All in all it was a really good night to say that there werent as many bunnies out last night. We even managed to see one of them really strange things that you only ever see at night when lamping.

We had just stopped on a track to shoot a rabbit through the right hand side of the car window when all of a sudden this huge and when I say huge, it was, spider landed on my windscreen. It was the size of a bird eating spider and proper sh-t me up. I dont know what type of spider it was but it must have been 6 inches across  .

Strange anyone got and ideas about big spiders in Notrth Yorkshire?

Sorry for the poor photos but i forgot my camera and had to use my video cam.

Another great write up Si. :clapper:

They really make me feel as though I were there with you. Definitely going to take up your offer and try to get up on business next March and go out with you.

You seemed to be straight on it with the HW100. Did you find it heavy, as you thought you might?

Cheers

Hi Sib,

Cheers for the nice comments mate.

No the Weihrauch HW100KT is not heavy mate infact i find it lighter than the R10.

The 100KT is really quiet mate and very accurate. Wuzzy seemed to like it anyway.

How are you getting on with your Air Arms?

Ive repleid to your email ref the DVD too.
