auld salmon 28
try feeding them before you go out this will help a little bit but after all its in there genes to kill get a ferret finder and dig ;)some days the bunnies just wont bolt nowt you can do Edited December 4, 2009 by auld salmon Quote Link to post
Brimmer 220
Just as Salmon says, a feed will help, but sometimes affects the way they work. Get a spade and dig! (if your not prepared for this, then give it up!) Quote Link to post
para1 11
hi took the ferrets out last sunday andinstead of bolting the rabbits just keeped killing them is there anything i can do to stop this. they are this years ferrets and its only there second time out chers You don't say a lot about your ferrets mate. If they are big strong ferrets you would expect them to kill quicker and more often than small jills. As already said some days rabbits just won't bolt so good ferrets will kill as opposed to just walking away. As already said locater and spade is the answer on bad bolting days and good ferrets will always get you rabbits. P1 Quote Link to post
FightTheBan 1,147
If the rabbits see you before they bolt, sometimes they wont. Same as if your jumping around ontop of the warren. Also depends on weather, and if you have mahoosive giant hobs lol. If you do, buy a spade because you will need it, imo. Quote Link to post

FightTheBan 1,147
Mite just be their style then, not a bad thing if you know what to expect. I personally work a team of small jillsfor the reason once they kill, if you dont dig them quick enough they will come off shortly. Ive got a big hob that i only work on small burys, because if he kills he will stay for an age or untill dug to. Quote Link to post
joey1979 0
They must be quite large polecat hobs if there killing that soon i bet? Quote Link to post

fensaluki 35
If they are getting the chance to kill that many at that age regularly mate. And assuming your permission is not ferreted hard by all and sundry I would suggest that maybe your making a little to much noise above ground. As some of the other chaps quite rightly say some days the bunnys just don't want to bolt but if its happening regularly they probably know your there and would rather take their chances against your ferrets even though 9 times out of 10 it will be the wrong desision for them . Its supprising how being almost silent even when you think you are being quiet will help with bolting wary rabbits. Just walking over the burys netting up and locating realy needs to be done as softly and quietly as possible. Also try giving the bury 10-15 mins after you have netted up to settle (have a cup of coffee and a sandwich)Hopefully you'll be suprised at the results. stubby 175
if they kill underground, are you marking the spots and digging the rabbits out, or just leaving them there Quote Link to post
