Hi i have read a wee bit into this hevi-shot stuff & not really found much on what chokes to recomend. For those of you that use it what do you recomend for the 3" 34g No.3 hevi-shot??. I read it patterns well & quite tight & dont want to have to pattern it personally. It will be used in a beretta urika mk2 & i have just seen this stuff perform through a haston escort in full choke & wow it folds geese like iv never seen in 21yrs & yes i know you need to point it in the right direction. Iv got some hevi-shot as im just not enjoying this steel in what options i have with 3" chambers & am willing to pay if it means i will kill humanely first time.

where can you get hevi-shot 20g from, as my dad was interested but we couldnt find any in UK

Thanks all i was thinking quarter to half choke & half is my favourite choke & my main choke i work in my auto's. The guy i saw had full in & i said to back it off but he said he had done that & not got on well with it.

I use half choke with everything but, with Hevishot it is probably correct to say that quarter choke is enough and more than half choke might be dangerous unless the gun has the fleur de lys steel proofing

my gun has this,so tell me. can i put say remi steel through full choke? or hevi through full choke?

Hevi-shot is more dense than lead so the volume for the same weight load will be less than that for lead, therefore choke is not a problem.

Hevi-shot is said to throw a tighter pattern than lead so a more open choke might be more appropriate.

I am not sure if the tighter patterns are because of the higher density or because the shot, due to it's hardness, has to be enclosed in full-length cup wads.

If it is due to density, then the idea from some years back that cube-shaped shot gave a more open pattern for skeet shooting goes out the window, because hevi-shot is all shapes.

 

Chokes for steel loads, because of the larger volumes for the same weight load, are recommended to be no tighter than half choke, from what I remember.

Having said that, I am using 42grm steel loads through a 10 bore which, I think, is choked Extra-full.

i bought some as i am sick of not getting a clean kill with steel. i was told that a quarter was good as it patterned tight.

I thought that the fleur de lys was to do with the barrel and damage that could be caused by steel being harder. the same logic with tight chokes with steel and the fact that steel is not soft enough to "squeeze" through the choke.
