Suitable lamps for lamping

I'd personally go for the LightForce 170 but with a belt pack, I don't like things hanging around my neck or off the shoulder.

I have had a go with a new cordless 170 but not convinced about battery life a couple mths down the line, to spend out £170.

cluson lamps are well worth the money and we have had thousands of rabbits with them  just recently iv gone for the light force 170 an excellant lamp if the dog takes the quarry a field out you can still see the chase  the only down side is you need a bigger battery to compensate for the 100 watt bulb apart from that excellent value . :) i also have the light force 140 with a 75 watt bulb and a spot to flood variation by turning the lamp head also an excellent lamp and this works well off the 7 ah batterys provided that they are newish other than that a 10 or 12 ah battery will more than last on any lamping trip :) good luck with whatever you go with

GOOD HUNTING ALL WOODGA

Millet: I was about to ask what the plastic pot was, strapped to the battery pack (?), but I now see it's, what; An improvised Lamp Holder, is it? That's good!

If that is what it is; How's the wire get on? Does it tend to fall through nicely enough, or do ye need to tug it down each time?

Cheers.

 Edited to say: That's what I get for rushing! I now see the wire's at the back so the handle of the lamp will just plonk straight in. Way cool! I'll be nicking that idea! :D

Clusons are good I used one for years. You get a better beam with the SL 170 but the battery drains a lot quicker.Ive just got another SL170 with the variable power switch on it which lets you adjust the power of the lamp and the battery lasts a lot longer.Only gripe with the SL170 is the filter set up on them, the filter set up on the Cluson lamps are definetly better.

I love both makes of lamp.....the light force being a much stronger beam.....but to be honest the laserlite is more compact, easier to carry, has the utility light, lasts longer and the red filter setup is 10x better than a lightforces which has to be clipped on....all due respect the lightforce is brilliant, with a 100w tight beam and the reflector style you can choose from... either way your not getting a duff lamp whatever you choose...

Well here goes lol, I cant get on with any of the lamps mentioned lol, i dont like the little lamps as i find the beams to tight, might be just about ok for an experienced dog but a young or newly started dog needs a more spread beam imo, as when they lose things in the turn the periphery(sp) light helps them follow their quarry. The lamps are only any good for rabbits,(i know thats what was asked for, but who pre ban only lamped rabbits?) when i lamped hares(pre ban) well not just me, i have never heard of a serious hare lamper using these lamps they just are not good enough, and if they are not strong enough for that job they will not be strong enough for others, ok as a spotting lamp but that would be it for me.

As for the light force 170 or whatever its called, for the money its pish, i do not beleive its 1 million candle power either, as i have an old coleman 400,000cp lamp, and have been out with 3 lads with the 170s and my lamp was as bright or brighter, build quality has also been a bit of a let down in them i have been told, and as for the spot to flood, what is it all about? when would you change it? half way through a course, before a course would you say oh i might need flood here lol , in the flood mode it also leaves a big black hole in the middle of the beam, although it does have a nice beam in tight mode(if thats how you say it) i dont see it being any better than a 20 pound lamp from a car shop, what are they 70 pounds or near as? far to much for what youre getting.

I know this doesnt help with what to buy but just thought id put a different opinion on, and as my grandad used to say it would be a poor world if we all liked the same.

Would also like to add i always thought the range of a lamp was to do with the quality of the reflector not the size of the head on the lamp if all else was equal, as was stated earlier.

Im not nit picking or trying to cause trouble here mate but i dissagree with just about all of your post..

Ive been out with them cheap car shop one's/blue eye's/nightblasters and other none brand make's aswell as riggy up's and to date well for the past 9yr's the clulite has been the dog's bollox's compared to all what ive seen and used..

I was introduced to the 170 striker some years ago now and i agree the build quallity is not too good but they have a mean fecking beam but the down side to it is theye kill the battery to quick.

On the pre ban bit i have had a hell of a lot of hare as fox and other gear using a clulite.. :good: ..and have brought every pup i have owned up using one to good standard's..

i have experienced alot of trouble with my lightforce 170 mach 2,within a week from purchasing water got in the dome i took it back to were i purchased it from and they sent it off to deben who wouldnt replace it with another one,so it costs me another thirty seven pounds for a new dome and it still lets water in have changed the seals as well, also another fault with the mach 2,is loose wiring.also tried the nightsearcher 170, but it leaves to much of a shadow due to the lens having a lip on it. the best lamp ive ever used was the old blue eye these lamps in my opinion were excellent pity you cant get old of them anymore. regards collie john.

Simoman theres a 100w version of the laserlite thats called the blaserlite...its basically the same but with a metal reflector instead of plastic and a 100w lamp fitted....on the downside though it does produce a hell of a lot more glare...

the make of bulb makes a big difference as well... xenon bulbs give a tighter beam. i tried another make and discovered that the head of it was much fatter. the fatter head caused more of a spread. it was so bad infact, that the dog didnt know which way to run lol.... millet, when you undo the screws at the bottom of the base what do you do to adjust the beam??? il have a look at it tomorrow!!
