how long you been hunting for

started out 7 years ago aged 10 when i went for a mooch with my godfather and the 12bore he shot a rabbit and that was me hooked. got myself a .410 for christmas did bunny bashing for about 3 years then my mate bought a lurcher, i hadnt been out with a dog before but i was hooked again now i go out with the lurchers or out lamping with shotguns. havent managed to get myself a dog yet because my dads a miserable twat.

my dad and his mate were poachers big time out every day/night with the dogs or they wer out with the airguns and somtimes i was aloud to go with them or i was at the window waiting to see what they had caught, freezer was always full and he would swap meat with the local fish monger.

then he was working away so had a few years break, then he got me a dog i was about 6 so it was his dog realy a 1/4 colliex then he got me a ferret at about 8 years old and thats when he started taking me out with him alot more, lernt me how to shoot ect. i got a webley exocet for crhistmas when i was about 13 and was allowed to take it out alone at 15 and i was out everyday with the lurcher and rifle and was allowed to take the dog lamping on my own but he was getting abit to old realy but we both loved it. i met 2 lads at secondry school that were into hunting and fishing like me and one had harris hawks and one had lurchers so i was out with them all the time. then i met my girlfriend and started goin out less and less and didnt do nothing for about a year then when i got the dog put to sleep last year i wanted another lurcher and thats were i am today i got myeslf a pup saluki/bull/greyxcollie/bull/grey and my dads just got 2 ferrets, met more people into the hunting game and just getting myself back into the swing of things so been into it for all my life realy 21 years

when i was bout 11 my brother was 13 his friends were into fereting and he got his first one so i tagged along then my papa got a gun so i got in to them had one for a while got to 17 and local pigs (police and me dont see eye to eye) decided i was not to have a gun took it off me on my permision for no apparent reason he said i was to young but law stated at time i was fine, brung it back 2 hours later when he found out he was in the wrong and said sorry but that disharted me so bben out for 2 to 3 years but got back in to it bout 5 months ago with my brothers derhound/greyhound and been out nearly every second night now, own my 13 week old buulx pup now and getting a new gun in january, and can i just say dont let the pigs keep u down cnt beleive how much i missed it and not as long as most people hunting but love it all the same happy hunting folks

i was for when my dad took me out for the first time only a quick flick with the lamp over local sports fields with zac i was given a go at the lamp right up until the point two lovely big eyes shone back that was my first charlie too. after that night my old man started taking me with the terriers and lurcher regularly been hooked ever since that night my old man has been hunting since he was about 7 with my grandad ect ect ect

Been ferreting for 4 years now my dogs are still wery young !

Had a patterdale but she died and so did my first ferret so i got my first lurcher nearly 2 years ago !

But i was taken out for a year first to make sure it wasnt just a fad i was going threw.

Dont think iv mist 1 sunday ferreting yet, and the dogs have not mist a day walk in 3 years.

Now i have a lurcher a whippet pup and a jack russel and 7 ferrets

And im only 16 so when i finish school ill have all the time for the dogs so cant wait

some interesting replies there, i think once you get a taste for it, it stays with you even when you call it a day and your dogs are long gone you will always have that voice in the back of the mind saying god i should be out working the dogs again

it all strted for me 6 years ago. when my brother got a dog only for a pet

she is a collie/bull x whippet!!!

she was about seven months old at the time . and 1 day i was walking around my local school ground.

there was rabbits evry were. i never done eny hunting in my life but my cosion had been doing it for a few years so i went and told him about all the rabbits i saw . and he sed to me your brothers dog will catch rabbits try going over there with a lamp he said. my brother had lost interest in the dog has all the other things hed been into.

so 1 night i decided to go and take alook . so off i went looked on the rugby pitch switched on the lamp no rabbits. i carried on walkin next thing the dog was pullin on the lead didnt now about the slip then lol

so i unclipped her switched the lamp on there she was chasing a rabbit first turn she piked it up then let it go .that was the only rabbit i saw that night . but from then on my cousin showed me the crack. by the time the dog was 15 months old she had 30 rabbits under her belt off that particular ground

AND SINSE THEN LURCHER WORK HAS HAD A VICE LIKE GRIP ON MY LIFE

i was only 13 my older mate took me out one and i took to the hunting way of life. started ferreting and got my 2 dogs this year they doing very well.

I've had Lurchers now for 35yrs.(i'm 48).First got into Running dogs because my Late Father used to Train Greyhounds Back in Ireland. My First Lurcher Was A Beddy/Whippet. I now Run Deerhound/Greyhound/Collie Types.

my dad started to take me when aye was bout 6 love it never got my own dog to aye was bout 11 or 12 a whippet x greyhound then i got my lamp and i was set for life lol

been round terriers and lurchers most of my life as my parents had them when i was a young lad.2 dogs we had always seem to come to mind now and again,a jack russell we had called charlie he was very nasty no one could go near my brother at the pram when he was a bain he'd have your hand off.another dog called nipper he was a whippet grayhound use to piss off most of the day then come back when he felt like it nine times out of ten with a rabbit.lol that was 30 yrs ago.

this is my first time writing anything on this site so i hope ive done it right any way first started about 13 years old ferreting down the pit heaps with me mates then me grandad got me an alotment then i got me first dog an ex racing grayhound keen as mustard killed all me chickens ducks and an ocasional rabit then after that me first lurcher proper allrounder first cross wippet gray started driving got in to hare coursing pre ban still have a couple of dogs now woudnt be without alurcher there like drugs adictive
